New cutter

Just thought I'd share a picture of my new cutter! What a brilliant contraption.... heavy great blades and a choice of regular cut and V cut. First go worked a dream!

I've got one myself. Makes for a great showpiece. I find I can't get the precision I like with its two straight cutters, so I rarely use those. But I do use the two V-cutters periodically. Enjoy!

I love this cutter....it's on my bucket list (once I get the man cave complete maybe), we have one at the shop, and I agree with wabash, I prefer the v's.

One of the first cigars I ever smoked was cut by the gentleman in a shop using these! I'm in the same boat as irate bass.

It is made by a company called Firstland out of New York. I have been unable to locate one recently at local shops (which figures as I passed on one months back), but they can be found on a few of the big NC discount sites.

So it says it's for 50-60 ring gauge cigars. How well does it chop the smaller stuff? Or will anything under 48rng get mangled?

I bought mine on eBay. Have to say the link above is certainly cheap.

For the small cigars I simply use a punch cutter - dont really need such an industrial sized cutting device for a PC.

My wife was a bit irritated when she saw it. She said why would you want to cut 4 cigars at the same time? I explained.....

Yes a great showpiece. I've just used it on a Punch Coronation which I think is a 44 ring gauge and it worked a treat. A very straight cut. I'll have a go with the V cutter on the weekend when I smoke a Unicos which I thank you again for recommending!

I have the same one, bought on ebay over a year ago.

I only use the Vcutters as the straight cuts take way too much off for my liking.

It's not really the best for lower than 42 ring gauge, I then use punch or finger V or finger straight cutter. All part of the experience..

It does look great, I don't think its stainless steel, more of a heavy polished aluminium alloy.

You can kinda see in the picture, each cutting hole has an inner lip, and the blades come basically right across the bottom edge of that lip. So larger ring cigars will fit comfortably in the lip, and the blade will take off just the very edge of the cap. For smaller rings, they can fall down through the lip on the straight cutters. So it's much tougher to get a precision cut. If you hold it steady and can line it up vertically where you want it, it will give you a very clean cut. I always end up taking off too much, or cutting at an angle. I typically only use the straight cutters on this piece if I'm making a second cut due to tar or a tight draw.

The V-cutters work well for just about any size, because it's much easier to line the cap up and hold it in place for the cut. This is my go-to cutter at home if I want a V cut.

I purchase one a few months back and returned it because the cuts were not straight. (Have a curve to them) the blades on the one I received were not the best quality either. I would rather a in hand cut that can be controlled better.

That said, maybe I got a dud?

Mattygukas its funny you should mention the curve. I've only had the cutter for 3 days, and used it for 3 cigars.

1. Punch Coronation (ROTT). Cut was perfectly straight...I simply held the cigar but it would not have gone through the whole. Was an ok smoke and very tasty last 3rd.

2. Juan Lopez No 2 - Cut perfectly straight. A divine cigar I have to say, one that you almost want to eat. Dark chocolate, espresso, caramel, Christmas fruit mix. The pleasure was all mine. I think this cigar has to be my favorite robusto and it agrees very well with my constitution.

3. Trinidad Reyes - Unusually this cut had a very noticeable curve to it. It wasn't anything that troubled me and I'm used to a curve here and there but strange how it differed from the Punch Coronation.

I think you might mean accounts payable Prez, and lighters do a better job on those..
