almudawi Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Hello everybody !! I am looking for a good anniversary/birthday cigar and have been considering either getting 3 boxes of Cohiba Piramides EL 2006 or The Seleccion Reserva. While the Cohiba Seleccion Reserva sells for a whooping 500 Bahraini Dinars = AUD 1470, I am sure of the authenticity (Local CDH). I've seen quite a few on the web that goes for half the price but nothing is guaranteed when you are buying from the internet unless its from Cigar Czar The other option is to get 3 Cohiba Piramides LE 06. My brother studies at the UK and managed to find a well stocked tobacconist; buying 3 boxes would be cheaper than buying the Seleccion Reserva by AUD 50. What do you guys think ? Which would be worth the investment ?
Padrino Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Personally, i'd take the three 2006 EL boxes. It would give you much more joy in the long term, and being one of the more popular/better EL releases ever you could always hang on to that last box of three and sell it for a ton of cash a few years down the line. The Gran Reserva is of course hyped to death and as exclusive as anything ever could be but..... personally the consistency of the 2006 EL speaks for itself. And besides, three boxes vs one box ? 3 boxes = much more joy
sharks Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Bang for buck go the Cohiba Piramides LE 06 30 cigars (3x10) compared to 15 for the Gran Reserva. They are a bloody great cigar.. In the end though I dont think you would go wrong with either choice this is dependant on the Reserva being what they were when first released at the Habanos festival.
almudawi Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 Thanks guys for the feedback. I was leaning towards the Piramides as well. One thing though, I think people are getting confused between the Reserva Seleccion and the Gran Reserva. Just to clarify things, the Reserva Selecion box is a humidified box that contained 30 various sizes of Cohiba and was produce in 2003. The leafs were aged for 2-3 years before the cigars were rolled or something like that. This effectively means that the cigars have at least 9 years of aged on them.

brian1 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 This would be an easy one for me to decide. The Seleccion Reserva are some of the nicest cigars in my collection. The box is worth getting alone for the 6 Robustos that are out of this world good. At the currrent price for these I think they are a great buy. The early reports on the 03 box codes Seleccion Reserva was poor and people moved on and for some reason these continue to be overlooked. Fast forward to today and there is some seriously well aged premium Cohiba leaf in these and they are a dream smoke. With all the hype on the new Gran Reserva, I am waiting for these to be blown out by the places that still have them and I will be backing up the truck..bigtime for these. Some more of my notes on them: http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/inde...leccion+reserva
Bartolomeo Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I am a Cohiba Piramides EL *****, so you know where my vote is Bart
almudawi Posted November 4, 2009 Author Posted November 4, 2009 So its a 4:1 to the Piramides ! I guess thats it then. Thanks guys for the tips !
maalouly Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 I would go for the Piramides even though the Reserva have more age on them I think the Priamides are tastier. That's only my personal opinion though.
thechenman Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 While I've never had the pleasure of a pramide...I would opt for that. Have read and heard so many good things about this cigar. If you can find them, buy them.
