tigger Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Oh wait. They're for "the most distinguished smokers." Automatically rules my redneck butt out. The more I think about it, the more I may really have to consider the price on these as a bar to purchasing. It's a shame that my country has so debased its currency.
anacostiakat Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Pass.. There is no friggin way I'm paying $60.00 +USD for a cigar. I guess I'm the minority opinion here, but I really am getting sick of all this endless Regional and LE koolaid. No, you will not be alone. . .
Mr.T Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Interesting reading everyone's comments on these highly anticipated smokes. They look like incredible smokes, but I too will pass on these. I would be a constant nervous wreck storing these in my humidor; oh and there is the price issue as well. For those who go ahead and purchase these.....enjoy and post plenty of reviews. I'm interested in reading people's thoughts on these.
BigGuns Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Price in Italy is been already released : 900 euro for 15 = 60 Euro each stick um, how do I put this......eff that ess!
kcmontie Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I am in for 2 or 3 if a group buy happens.. I wish I had the money for a box. I trust Rob and Smithys opinion on this one.
puros71 Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 These cigars look wonderful! I was in Cuba in August and seen them being labed and boxed. I want to get me some of these.
aavkk Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Price in Italy is been already released : 900 euro for 15 = 60 Euro each stick My estimate of 65-70 USD was more to make a point than anything else. It seems I have UNDERestimated the gaul of HSA. Wow, just wow. Good for them because you know what, they will sell out. I really dont think that I will be purchasing any of them considering I have plenty of special occasion cigars and each one costs me more than a box of 90 point 08 Upmann Majestics.
Jesuscookies Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 At 30-40 stick I would pick up a couple, if only to try. But at 90USD for a single? That's just a bit too rich for my blood.
hsmunoz Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 for that kind of money I will hire someone to hypnotize me into beleiving that my JLP's taste like Pu**y and be done with it. damn I need a smoke!
Guest rob Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 You can milk a cow many times... but slaughter him only once.
El Presidente Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 If the blend is the same as the Havana examples I have no problem on price. The finest cigars I have had this decade were Dunhill Cabinetta's. That was until the Cohiba Gran Reserva. I paid $150 for my last Dunhill Cabinetta as a single. Trust me, I don't do that everyday. There are $10 wines, $30 dollar wines, $70 dollar wines, $300 wines and $3000 wines. People choose what they can afford and occasionally may buy a great bottle for a special occasion. I can't see any difference here. HSA never made a secret that these were going to be anything but super expensive but perhaps the best ever made. News reported from Havana was $100 a cigar in Feb. I am lost as to why people are shooting them now. I get pissed when they hide pricing to the last minute (09 LE's) and then throw a 50% premium on a shorter Belicoso which is not as good as its cheaper larger brethren. That makes my blood boil. I will be angry if this general release is not the 99/100 point cigar I had previously. If it is as good (99/100) then really...I just couldn't care what they charged. I will only have one every six months to a year anyway but would look forward to the ultimate treat. I wouldn't be too concerned that these will not sell. Every dealer in the world has a list a mile long for them. A lot of that comes just from those who went to the Habanos Festival (1400 cigar enthusiasts) who put their name down for a box after trying them. I don't know anyone who didin't. Genuine excellence should be applauded. Crap dressed as excellence should be publically stoned.
Van55 Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 If the blend is the same as the Havana examples I have no problem on price. Well, you get them wholesale and will probably sell out your allotment, so of course you have no problem with the price. I ain't paying $90 US for a rolled up weed. I'm boycotting these, but there are enough rich fools to buy up the 5000 boxes, and undoubtedly there will be a second release of another 5000 boxes.
tigger Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Rob, I know myself well enough to know that I'll probably end up buying a couple of these if you're offering singles, or there's a group buy set up. If you're saying they're comparable to Cabinettas, then somewhere down the line, I would regret not having tried them. The 40% premium buying with US Dollars commands really annoys me off though.
Guest rob Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 but there are enough rich fools to buy up the 5000 boxes, I definitely am not rich...
El Presidente Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 The beauty of market demand and supply Van. I lose no sleep that HSA has 2008 LE's piled up at the warehouse. I am quite sure they will have plenty of 09's as well. They will learn. I have no problem if these sell at $100 a stick if they are a result of excellence. I admit I have spent a $100 on a bunch of "crushed grapes" . I see no different with "rolled up weed" Both have to be excellent.
mbrody Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 At $100 a stick, I would still buy some...maybe a whole box if funds allowed. Rich man am I? Nope. I'm a regular Joe who doesn't mind having some pretty special smokes saved for the right occassion. I've done more stupid things with my money, and lord knows how much I lost in the Tech boom, but money spent on a good/great/out of this world cigar is worth it to me. If they suck, then I have to deal with the guilt. If they are great, then I will revel in the purchase and savor every stick. To each his own...but I don't think it is right to call people "fools" for buying these. I do understand Vann's statement however, that yes, this is an exploited item.
Jesuscookies Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 100USD a stick = a cheap hooker, 3JLP #1's, a six pack of my favorite brew, and $50 change. Don't get me wrong, if I could rationalize a box I would, but at that price, other purchases have more value. Damn, I wish I had $1500 burning a hole in my pocket!
reigndrop Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Anybody in the New York area want to do a box split? I only want like one or twoishh :/
Trevor2118 Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Well, I'm in for two....one to smoke, one to put away.
Ellery Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Anybody in the New York area want to do a box split? I only want like one or twoishh :/ Id be willing to split a box

If you're a better man than me for not purchasing this type of cigar far from me to tell you different.
SethG Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I think I still have 6 or 7 cabinettas. Everytime I smoke one it's like killing a unicorn! Which is why I'll buy a box or two of these. When you love a cigar, you can never replace it. I suppose we now get front row seats to watching the czar take care of their own customers
Colt45 Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 You can milk a cow many times... but slaughter him only once. yeah, and if you milk him - even once - you'll have a friend for life......
