El Presidente Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Partagas Salomones LRE Mar 09 Video Review. We weren't overly impressed here albeit we practiced cigar infanticide in tasting a 3 month old cigar. Still, I found the 08's to be better. We will revisit this cigar in the coming months to see if we have just got a rogue box. Nice editing Smithy in blocking out most of Kens discussion with shots of wine
Colt45 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Thanks for another honest review. Smithy, one of your best editing jobs yet!
Mr. Japan Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Great review and yes , this cigar is improving (the first releases where not as expected).
Ken Gargett Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 smithy, that was a blast from the past, given how long ago we filmed it. and that delgihtful "shirt" again. tell me, does it come in men's?
sandholm Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Partagas Salomones LRE Mar 09 Video Review. thanks for a great (honest) review, this cigar has been on my list for a long time but I still haven't tried it. Perfect editing Smithy... cheers
Guest rob Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 It's amazing that they release premium cigars, in this price range, that under-perform and are so far removed from their marque. It really is inexcusable. I don't buy the "to young" excuse either. They should be good to go from the get go... and improve with age. Habanos need to lift their game. $45+ AUD for a cigar that misses is a travesty. Thanks gents.
Smooth Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Another entertaining review!! Must say i had a good chuckle to myself once I realised Ken was edited out for wine montages... Thanks for the efforts as always guys!
habanohal Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I havent bought any of these yet but I expect the Salamones to be like the Party Shorts on steroids. Looks like Another flop from HSA. Another disapointment like the Cuaba Diademas
perfectform Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Thanks for the review guys. Let me say I absolutely love Partagas, yet I was never excited by this release. I don't like the format, and I've discovered that probably less than 50% of these special releases are true to their marques. If I want to smoke a real Partagas, give me an 898V please.
Colt45 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Though I'm not inclined to purchase cigars of this format either, as the guys mentioned, they are still quite young and it'll be interesting to see how they pan out. Hal, it's interesting that we often think a larger cigar will be bolder than a smaller counterpart, and it often ends up not being the case For anyone who has not seen these great threads re the ratios of tobaccos used in large vs. small cigars, here are a couple of links if you're interested: Link1 Link2 Unfortunately, the photos are missing from the Lusitania vs. SdC3 thread.

If there is a sliver lining to these dark clouds it's that I'm not spending as much money as I would if these cigars performed the way they could and should. I also look forward to seeing Ken's full participation in the video reviews again soon. It's a shame Smithy needs to creatively edit in filler material to make up for his absence.

I have had 3 so far, and they are one of the worst cigars of 2009 so far.
Jimmy2 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Rob is correct cigars should taste great young out of the box that's the way they are ment to be.The oh they must be young with age they will get better is so false.99% of cigar smokers smoke right out of the box young and their should be no excuse why cigars like this are not smoking great out of the box.Even more that Cuba uses aged tobacco now when making their cigars. To me it's a bum box and if not than they are making some shitty high end cigars. And please stop saying they need age than they will be better crap let's face it the fault is the people who make the cigars.Cigars need a good rating fresh a foundation to judge if age will make them better down the road.
Stormin691 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Thanks for the honest review fellas... Where was Kenny on this one??
BobLobLaw Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 and that delgihtful "shirt" again. tell me, does it come in men's? Does your sweater?!
asmith Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Thanks for the honest review fellas... Where was Kenny on this one?? Not sure where Ken got to, he was there I remember hearing him but not really seeing him??
Ken Gargett Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Not sure where Ken got to, he was there I remember hearing him but not really seeing him?? nice! you are a bitter man, smithy. ITS ALL ABOUT THE SHIRT!
Ken Gargett Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Is that all you have got Ken? sorry, smithy. i've clearly managed to offend you somehow. not sure whether that was in opening my house to you whenever you needed it for your videos or pouring endless wine down your throat or cleaning up after you and so on and on - all done purely to annoy you of course (while i might add you were the only one of us being paid to sit and drink and smoke). just let me know what it is that so deeply offends you about that and i'll happily stop. and my nephew is thoroughly enjoying your, or rather now my, CD's. should have them back by christmas-ish.
asmith Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 and my nephew is thoroughly enjoying your, or rather now my, CD's. should have them back by christmas-ish. Nice
Guest rob Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 ...just let me know what it is that so deeply offends you about that and i'll happily stop. I could be wrong here... but I'm pretty sure it's the bit where you constantly imply he's homosexual, lazy and wears womens clothes.
Colt45 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I could be wrong here... but I'm pretty sure it's the bit where you constantly imply he's homosexual, lazy and wears womens clothes. Perhaps it's because they're both so much alike that they're constantly at each other........
asmith Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Perhaps it's because they're both so much alike that they're constantly at each other........ Its all about keeping you lot entertained.
Bartolomeo Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 This is CA's cigar of the week (93/100), any recent experience with these lately? Thanks, Bart
