Hi everyone,

On my post about the Nimes Feria, I forgot to mention one of the highlights

of this event which was our encounter with one of Nimes famed celebrity.

Her name is SAMBA and she is a female dog, a boxer. She became famous

last year at the Nimes Feria and of all places , at the Corrida. Her owner,

Manu Faure, owns a small but charming Restaurant in the center of Nimes

He and his father, Pierre, are very passionate aficionados of bullfights.

Well, last year in the middle of one of the most important Corridas that highlighted

the Feria, Samba decided that her day to fame had arrived .

Manu did not see her run off and the next thing he saw was Samba in the middle

of the ring, down below, and face to face with a 600 kg bull looking her in the eyes.

The corrida was stoped during a full 7 mins while Samba was barking and challenging

her opponent to a fight. The most incredable part is the fact that the dog knew that she

had to stay right in the middle of the bull's face so that way the bull could not see her.

Manu finnally suceeded in calling her back and once Samba safe in her owmers arms,

all of the Arena bursted in the sound of applause. From that day on, Samba became

famous in the local newspapers but what has made her the happiest is that her owner

has now put her on his calling cards. Well, what can I say, It's a dog's life .

I remember last year when my dog Cohiba did the same but to a Brown Snake in our front paddock. Put himself between the house and the snake , barked and barked running back to the house and back to the snake. Dodged three strikes before I could call him away. Equal parts stupidity and bravery

years ago, we had a brave little australian terrier called whisky - long story. would take on anyone she decided she didn't like, no matter how big. eventually got done in by a snake, when she was quite old and a bit slower but i reckon she dispatched at least a dozen in her younger days. normally i prefer larger dogs but this one was something.

it was replaced by the laziest, fattest, most placid rottweiler in history who did only one thing in its life. that was, when next door's poodle jumped up to mum, to bite it in two. made for some tense moments with the neighbours (two nice old *** guys) for a while. i remember playing with the rottie at times. when it would get excited, it would grab you around the arm with its jaws but always knew not to bite properly. just as well as you could feel the extraordinary power in those jaws. if it wanted to, could easily have taken my arm off.
