SmokinLightning Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Trinidad Ingenios USE SEP 07 Storage: 64% / 70F I don't remember being that impressed with these when I first got them. They were buried pretty deep in the humidor so I dug them out to give them another shot, I am glad I did! Apperance is smooth dark and oily... the flash from the camera reveals a light plume sparkling on this beautiful wrapper. Cap is a perfect pigtail, the cigar has a tiny spot of band glue on it, but is otherwise perfect. Testing the draw after clipping, and it is very nice... just the perfect amount of resistance. I didn't really get a definate flavor impression while cold. After lighting, the cigar smokes like crazy... each smooth, slow pull gives off clouds of thick white smoke. A nice leathery flavor overlayed with thick dark coffee laced with spicy cinnamon, delicious! Towards the end of the first third, and the coffee moves into more of a unsweeted bakers chocolate, smothered in thick cream... a perfect blend of bitter, smooth and sweet. I am literally chewing on the smoke at this point, every draw is cool and thick... the cinnamon is a little hotter now leaving a tingle on the tounge and lips. Amazing, right down to the final inch... this cigar keeps building... sweeter, richer, thicker flavors just coating my mouth. I refuse to drink my 7up... for fear of washing away this amazing aftertaste. I burned this sucker until I was at risk of torching my fingertips, and still it stayed cool and smooth. I am rating it a solid 98, I am just too cynical to give it the 100 it probably deserves. My biggest worry now is what to follow it up with... I can't think of anything else in my humi I have enjoyed this much recently. Rob, I would love to see you guys revisit this one again in a video review. Was this cigar just a fluke?
Ginseng Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Great review! That is exactly how I feel about these cigars. Gems they are! Wilkey
El Presidente Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Fantastic Review. I am heading downstairs to the Humidor now to pick out one for poker today. Will report back!
bolivr Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Top Review.. Since I don't have any they will go on to the shopping list
BonVivant Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Great review! Do not have the courage to try those - sleeping for now.
El Presidente Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Had mine while playing poker this morning. Hit a beautiful patch an inch in which lasted 20 minutes. Cream, sugar, ginger, toasted tobacco. Stunning. Unfortunately it was a slow bloomer and fell flat again at the end. Medium to medium full. I am going to dry box another and hit it Tuesday. There is something special lurking within
Bolismoker Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 I just got one of these is a small trade....was going to hold onto it for awhile....now me thinks this will be imposible. Great review!!!
ChicagoWhiteSox Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Nice review and great pictures! I have two boxes sleeping, maybe I should try one now
shrink Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 The Ingenios are a beautiful cigar, with great appearance and aroma cold. Unfortunately, I just don't "get" the flavor profile. To be fair, both examples I've tried have been from the same box, SOA OCT07. The most recent one I smoked today. The cigar was perfectly constructed, and drew well, but the flavor doesn't rock my world. I'd prefer almost any other lonsdale.
Guest rob Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 This review has inspired me crucify one of these in the coming week. Cheers for the review!
