olotti Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 This is not going to be a thorough professional review like the Prez can give but thought I would throw my thoughts out there on a recent cab of BBF's I received. First I love the BBF's, If I could have an everyday smoke these would be it. I think one of the best things to look for in a cigar are those that we can grab at any time and any place and know we will be satisfied and these do it for me. I love the Bolivar marca, that earthy, coffee, white pepper and solid core of cuban tobacco are prominent through and through and these have never let me down. I've had samples from 01'-05 and now these ENE 08's show real promise. First third was pure earth, coffee and white pepper through the nose. Second third showed the youth as it got a little rough, lost its way and went more charred wood but in the last third came back around and redeemed itself in spades as it grabbed its core of earth, coffee and interjected a little bitter chocolate. During the last third it felt like my mouth was coated with a nice velvety layer of earth, tobacco and coffee that is very hard to find in such a young cigar. If I had to give it an overall score I would give it an 88 out of 100 with a possibility of a 93 out of 100 in coming years as it rounds out and becomes a solid, solid cigar.
Tampa1257 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 For a 1 year old BBF, that sounds impressive with the flavors you tasted.
shrink Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 olotti, thanks for the review. It seems that the BBF is making something of a comeback. On the strength of reviews and recommendations, I recently got a DIC07 cab. They are everything you described. Plus "juicy". The one I sampled made my mouth water!
Jimmy2 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 BBF have made a comeback since late 07 this is not old news ... And also Mag 46 have made a big time come back since early 08 ....
Colt45 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Sounds great! The last batch I've smoked were from '05 and while enjoyable enough, were not outstanding. I may have to try more recent production.
Mr Peales Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Good review, It's nice to see this cigar reclaim its standing. I am totally preoccupied –to the point of distraction– by the citrus(lemon) flavors in my Bolivars these days. Doesn't seem to matter what it is, CE'01, CE'07, CE'08, PC'07, CG'03. It's sort of like having a song stuck in your head that you can't shake. I need something to displace this flavor fascism and these BF might just do it.
shrink Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 And also Mag 46 have made a big time come back since early 08 .... So I understand. Give us a review, Jimmy!
IceChant Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I got two boxes from December 07, I'm half done with one. I find I like it that I smoke it at least once a week (smoke around 3 cigars a week).
Bolismoker Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Nice review. I have a SLB on the way from the same time period, now I'm very anxious for them to arrive
CigarmanTim Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Thanks for the review. I am a big Boli fan. I usually stick with the BRC but I am convinced after seeing 2 reviews that this stick deserves a shot.
