Hello to FOH Friends,

A quick note to let you know that I earned my private pilot's certificate yesterday, squeezing in my 5 hour checkride between snow & rain. I celebrated last evening with a Cohiba LE2006 pyramid (no photos taken then, unfortunately can't smoke close to the planes!) but here's a photo of me with my flight instructor...

So, if you're ever coming to SE WI, contact me through the board and we can meet for a flight & a smoke after!

Welcome to the club. I got my private in Waukesha about 24 yrs ago. Moved onto commercial, instrument, multi- and for a little bit, CFI -II , MEI. I don't get up as much as I used to, but I remember WI being a great place to do it.

I'm sure you are already aware that now, in addition to having an expensive "cuban" hobby, you have found one of the other more fun ways to open your wallet and watch all the money "fly" out.

Have fun with your license by trying to find the best $100 hamburger joint.

Congrats!

I learned to fly through the Civil Air Patrol as a Cadet many years ago, it was a blast doing search and rescue!

Enjoy and have fun!

Congrats!!

Now it's time to enjoy and practice the ability to fly alone then worry about getting your instrument rating.

Hey, congrats!

I know little about flying, but are you licensed for instruments, or visual only?

Thanks for the congrats! Just visual (VFR) now...it's the first step. After I build some time, I'll go for my instrument rating (IFR)

Hi CSGrip... thanks for the response! Small world, I did mine at Timmerman, have landed at Waukesha many times. And yes, I know it's not a bargain hobby, but something I've dreamed of for a long time.

Congratulations, i remember that day well myself, back a few years, 1987 to be precise. Looks like the same aircraft. I went on to take up a career in aviation and now fly 777's for Emirates.

El Presidente knows me B), i even brought the crew out one night in Brisbane. Thanks Rob!!

Fly safe and keep the sunny side up, except if your doing aerobatics of course :o

Good onya mate; a ton of work and a well deserved cert. Lovely cigar to boot. If you get over my way, fly through the P40, it'll be the ride of a lifetime, though it will most likely be your last. :o

Oh, and a thought... If you want to swim, you get out of the boat. It follows then, if you want to fly, you get out of the plane. Just a thought. B)post-66-1236206741.jpg

Well done!

I've always thought about doing this... maybe one day.

Well done mate, I think we should all sit down and have a cigar for that achievement, away from the avgas of cause. :o

Congratulations! Did they rip/tear your shirt?

Hi Andre,

Actually, I had the ceremonial shirttail cutting when I soloed last year..nothing but opening a renter's file at the FBO so I can keep spending money renting planes!

Bob, Congrats!

I just began training. See you aloft!

Hi Jerome.... thanks! Excellent that you're starting training! It's a wonderful learning experience. What type of equipment are you training in?

Well done Bob! Nothing like the satisfaction of achievement

Thanks, Rob... next time you visit Chicago area, we can pop up to Northern Wisconsin & do some fishing! My father-in-law is up near the Canadian border... 7 hour drive, only 2 hours by plane!

Bob,

I'm in a 152 out of Chester, CT (KSNC).

How long did it take you until you passed your check ride?

Now you gotta go IFR!

Hi Jerome,

I did training in a 172, since I'm 6'4" (didn't fit well w/headset on in 152). I started in Jan 2008, soloed in April, had to take time off in summer '08 due to illness & death of my mother, and then ran smack-dab into midwest winter weather (had to re-schedule checkride twice due to weather!). So, was basically ready in early Dec 2008, took until now, which was fine... I kept racking up hours & lessons... had about 27 hours solo time, 11 x-c, the rest field work.

As far as IFR, yes, in the plans, but need to get about 39 more x-c hours in before I can start that training! (and, work it out with my wife, lol)

Good luck, keep me posted.. Bob
