Which would you choose and why? I have read through some posts on the FOH, and have viewed the recent review. Need more help, obviously both of these would be young, Sir Winston probably ENE 08 (JAN), not sure about the Connoisseur No. 1's, but most likely young also.

Sir Winston. No contest.

Such an great cigar that has rarely (if ever) dissatisfied me. Flavour. complexity and elegance all in a perfect size.

My sentiments exactly. In my opinion, one of the top two churchills produced by Habanos.

If someone were giving me a box, I'd take the SW's for sure. But since I pay for them, I'll admit that I probably smoke six Connaisseurs to every Winnie. The Connie has a lot to recommend it. First off, it's affordable! And I also find it to have a unique profile within the Upmann stable. Some say that it's the most traditional profile: straightforward strong tobacco that needs years to mellow and reveal the comparatively subtle H.U. complexities.

To me, key to judging a young Connie is to look for strength. If you find it difficult to smoke the whole cigar, or it singes your nose hairs when you exhale, it's probably going to age well.

Cool. And the other is?

Although I've enjoyed the few Sir Winstons I've had, I don't usually have the time for such a smoke so I usually go for something smaller. Also agree on the BCGs, great smoke when I've had them.

Ahhh, Boli CG... of course.

I need to get me some more of those.

I plunked it down for the Boli CG...was really considering the Winnie too, but I have to tell y'all. I have yet to really enjoy an Upmann, so i am hesitant. Can you put me over the edge? What am I missing?

Thanks all who advised, I went with the Sir Winston's. Should arrive w/in 8 - 10 days. Is this a cigar that needs some serious aging, ie. 5-7 years, or are the approachable at 3 years?

Generally speaking, these cigars age well, and need time. I've no experience with '08s, but it would not surprise me if it was a very good

cigar at three years. I have to believe in five to seven it will be stellar. After you receive them and give them time to acclimate, it couldn't

hurt to give one a try, but I think the longer you can hold off, the happier you'll be - that's just my opinion.

Enjoy them!

JWM,

If you look above this thread, in the top section of this page, you will find a review of 08 Sir Winstons done by the Czar crew.

I agree with all their comments emphatically. This is a great cigar, right now.

I also agree with Colt. Let them rest for a month or so.... and then get into them. Rest assured that their pedigree all but guarantee that they will improve in the medium to long term as well.

Sir Winston hands down. I am going to throw the Quai D'Orsay Imperiales into the mix becaus I have had a few in the last two years that have been completely awesome. Certainly not the titan of Sir Winston, but a tremendous smoke. Bolivar and Sancho gigantes are both on my list of cigars to try in the next year.

I think it would be well worth trying a few. Perhaps in the end, you just don't care for the Upmann profile?

Colt, Too early to tell...I need some more experience with them. Maybe I will try a few instead of just going to a box blindly.

For me Sir Winston is a very special cigar and only for special occasions. The Connoisseur No. 1 I can smoke every day - I just enjoy the profile plus I was smoking them non-stop years ago, when I was dating my future wife to be - romantic...
