I would also like some insight into how HSA perceive the kinds of smokers out here. What sort of categories do they form? What assumptions do they make about what we like and how we can be tempted...and put off. In a word, do they know the various "us's" on the other side of the counter?

Wilkey

Well if James Sucklings blog is anything to go by he mentions the following from an HSA insider regarding the new Montecristo line: “We want to give something new to the Montecristo and the Habanos for the new generation,” said an amigo at Habanos. “We want to make something attractive to the new generation. Who are they? They are people in their early 30s and getting interested in the good life – from polo and boats to cars and tennis.”

It seems as if they're targeting the Polo playing tossers with deep pockets and/or their upper crust daddy's..... (forgive me but attitudes like these just grate me the wrong way)

I suddenly feel like a peasant for some reason....

Dear James,

Please inform H SA that those cigars are made already. In some countries they are called "Blunts." I may have seen you and other CA contributors sampling them at the RTDA under the banner Havana Honeys. I am sure you are saving their top 10 rating for the 2009 advertising season.

PS: Great review on Casa Magma (whateverthe****ing name is) -Piggy

...On the smoker side, I'll leave others to carry the thin gauge banner. I'm quite happy smoking coronas, cervantes, and dalies along with the coronas gordas which I love. I would love to see the introduction of the equivalent of "single vega" cigars, rolled with highly distinctive tobacco and blends. I don't suppose the fellow whose Habanos habit consists of picking up a few loose sticks from the LCDH after work will care much, but it seems like there are some who would love to have a more intimate, unfiltered experience with Cuban tobacco. This is the "something different" that I think would turn nascent Habanophiles into full-blown specimens better than $75 dollars worth of fancy box on $25 worth of cigars or $20 regionals.

Wilkey

I really like this idea Wilkey but with brand characteristics a thing of the past (I know a debatable topic) I think vega characteristic cigars would be out of the question. I must emphasize that I think this is a fantastic idea and would give a potential rebirth to "brand recognition." Alas since I cannot afford $100 cigars, a likely price point, I would never get to sample one anyway! -Piggy

since worldwide smoking bans have enacted, HSA will forgo thiner & longer vitola for fatter & shorter vitola !!! Indeed a sad thing !

Fatcigar,

I don't see the relationship between smoking bans and forgoing production of thiner cigars. Can you explain?

Let me merge some of the ideas above...

Let's have a thin ring gauge cigar made for FOH from the H. Upmann brand, preferably a Laguito No. 1 named El Prez.

I like this idea! BUT... I like political cigars and I think that EL Prez. should give rebirth to the Presidencia. (in Lag No. 1)

I too would like to see the Ramon Allones Belicoso Fino released worldwide, as well as the line expanded with the reintroduction of the 8-9-8 & the Corona and Petit Corona.

I would like to know if the roll out of the Montecristo Sport or whatever the name is of the light Monte has been received as expected or if it has been the flop that the majority of cigar smokers predicted? Monte half caf latta mocha! LMAO

Have fun in Cuba. I just want to know more info on the future release of the Siglo VI Reserva? How much different it is from the production Siglo VI. Thanks.
