El Presidente Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Off to Nicaragua end of next week and then Havana for the Festival. I have meetings with HSA on the Wednesday of the week so I am happy to put forward any questions you may have and respond when I return March 6th. Just a quickie......the are not producing thin gauge cigars because no one buys them Sales dictate production in the new Habanos world (much to my disgust) so give them a reason to change that and they will consider it I will print out this thread and take it with me.
habanablue Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Ask 'em why they can't get a professional Spanish and English translator to translate their website properly. A bit like reading the English version of Epicur!
El Presidente Posted February 3, 2009 Author Posted February 3, 2009 Ask 'em why they can't get a professional Spanish and English translator to translate their website properly. A bit like reading the English version of Epicur! I can answer that one. They won't pay for a professional translator. They ask a good hearted HSA employee to do it. He has been asking for help with it for years.
semery74 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Rob, Do you think they would offer their insight on the end of the embargo? Could you capture some sommelier competition information while you are there this year for us? Definitely would like to know the drink/cigar pair choices each contestant offers.
shortsqueeze Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 1. Monte 2, Monte 1 in 50 cabs 2. Bring back Punch Monarca
KB24 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 1. Monte 2, Monte 1 in 50 cabs I 2nd that!!! Can you imagine a cab of Monte 2's? WOW is all I can say.
yossie Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Why don't you produce aged cigars in the regular line? As You know, Some Habanos distributors sells their aged stocks or Some non-Cuban brands have aged cigar selection which are quite popular regardless of the prices. I know You may say We already sell aged cigars but that's quite limited like Resreva line, Limited edition or Cohiba Maduro 5. But LE and Maduro 5 use aged leave only for their wrappers. Rererva line is too little to get it.

Well... I buy them! 2. while were on the topic of 50 cabs how about RASCC, Connie 3's, VR Unicos and Famosos! Have a great trip and take lots of pics! Through the video reviews its obvious your spanish is muy excellante Rob. You should try and do a guest lector' at the partagas factory for an afternoon. I would do anything to see that on You tube.

OK, I can compromise, how about a LE in a ring gauge less than 46? Tampa and I would buy some....
Padrino Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Rob,Do you think they would offer their insight on the end of the embargo? I second that. It's a question that will impact every single one of us regardless of which continent we're on. Will we be paying a few hundred more per box ? etc. And hopefully someone at HSA could answer that truthfully without some PR spin to it...
Lanthor Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Can we expect the RA offering to be expanded in the near future? Seems there is a lot of pent up demand for doing the beli, 898, or the like on a more regular basis.

Seems there is a lot of pent up demand for doing the beli, 898, or the like on a more regular basis. Exactly. Putting the RA belicosos RE into regular production would be great. Further, are there plans to put any LEs and/or REs into regular production as was done with the Mag 50?
habanohal Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 La Gloria Cubana need a Hermosa #4 or Robosto Format.
shortsqueeze Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 How about a "Vintage" line? Bringing back original, old, discontinued vitolas for one year let's say, it not only serves as a test balloon to see if they want to bring it back in full force, but enables collectors and aficionados to "go back in time" if you will.
Colt45 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 What, if anything, is being done to continue improvement in quality of cigar construction? I still find overall construction quality hit or miss. I understand that draw testing equipment is being used, but is there an overall plan for improvement? Increased, more stringent roller training, etc? (I understand that salaries play a role here). Has there ever been thoughts of changing the way leaves are bunched, or is the current method considered the "best" way? Is the current traditional method considered to impart some of the unique flavor characteristics to the Cuban cigar? One small example of construction variance is the divot - it seems some cigars have them while many do not. is this roller choice or roller experience? Thanks.

n2advnture Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Here's a simple one for you Rob. How come they take the time to market an Anniversary humidor supposedly to commemorate the prestige or quality of the brand and then build a PIECE OF **** humidor to stick the cigars in?
Punch Joe Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Granted, Sam! If I may add something....that some of the website translations is not all responsibility of this one. I can say that is really a pain in the ass to make corrections to other´s people way of speaking. Regretfully, they speak poor spanish so english is not better. If someone see any correction to be made, please let me know specially when it comes to the press releases, prices awarded, featured events and news. We will look into it, and happy to put the old aside. Count on me!!!
brooklyn Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Perfectos! Lots of them in all brands. Thank you very much!
Van55 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I would be interested to know the degree to which (if any) the hurricanes last fall will affect cigar production this year and in years to come.
Cohiba007 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I would be interested to know the degree to which (if any) the hurricanes last fall will affect cigar production this year and in years to come. Van beat me to it. Great question and I wonder if you will get a truthful answer.
Jokermann Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Thinner RG ELs / REs ?? I am not even talking 42 and under. Lets get some 46 and under. I have had enough of this 52 / 54 RG crap they put out. Like other said, 50 cabs of RASCC, Monte #2, BBF... I would like to see more RAs. Bring back the Corona, 898 and Petit Corona. I would also love to see a double robusto reg prod RA. LGC - Anything new that is not a RE that costs $280 for a 10 box. More Juan Lopez?? Why are there so many REs produced each year? It makes them less special, when they have the exact same sizes over and over in different regions.
