El Presidente Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 It is not an Australian review unless we have an Eskie (cooler) mid shot
shrink Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Thanks, guys, for a very enticing review. Good to hear that the '08 Sir Winnie is such a, well... winner (if you'll excuse the pun). Here's a question for you: is this cigar blended similarly to the Upmann Mag 50? Is there a sibling resemblance? I picked up references to the shortbread and dried fruit. Could it be even better than the new Mag?

We looked into its eyes and saw Aces Kings. It just didn't play its end cards the way expected. Jack/Queen/10. Superb hand but in realty so much more to give. It is holding Q/A/A. It is smoother more refined than an Upmann 50. The 50 is the brash upstart with potential and performance. The Winston is confident within itself....performance and promise. Promise being bankable as opposed to potential.
yossie Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 OK. Rob, I will smoke the same box code one tonight for my birthday cigar.. I don't expect in it as you say though..

sounddust Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Great to see Ken back and all dressed up for such a legendary cigar. Smithy, you should wear those shades like you did when you dress up as Wookie. What a fantastic cigar, just an approachable work of art from Cuba. The 2 I had last year were already a joy to smoke at such a young age. Here's to a Week 4 Hupmann special.
yossie Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I just finished the cigar. I think this is for elderly people. Young people at least me would like to smoke fablous cigars.
asmith Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 That Sir Winston is a sensational cigar and has years to run. That middle third is really up in the air as to where it is going to go. The best part will be seeing how it evolves over the years.
Guest rob Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I love this cigar. I had a few over Xmas and was in heaven. A few Questions - You mention you think it has legs... where do you see it going as it evolves? What changes? It's great now... but when do you see it peaking? What happened to Upmanns needing 8+ years to develop? What's changed to allow them to be stunners right off he bat? Cheers for a beaut review!
shortsqueeze Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 "You would block the chimney for Santa" LOL!
FireDigger Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Thanks for the review Prez, Smithy, and Ken! I've only had two of these and both of them were absolutely splendid. I will most likely get a box of these with or without that great video review. Now I just have to act fast before they all get taken! BTW, here is a picture of my first Sir Winston. That ash was amazing!
FireDigger Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I have a question. How do you differentiate a Monarca from a Sir Winston if you have two singles? Or can you? From what I know, the only way to tell them apart is from their packaging and a good enough palate to detect the different blends. Is that accurate?
shrink Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I just finished the cigar. I think this is for elderly people. Yossie, Smithy isn't elderly.
Mel Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Good time and review I just saw it BUT Christ did we have to see up Ken's shorts like that?? No doubt he's proud of the package and all but he needs to corral that somebeach and keep it for the sheilas.
DocRKS Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Rob, At the start of the Sir Winnie review - you made mention of just coming off a somewhat disapointing experience with the RyJ Ex 4... From what I remember - that's a switch as I seem to recall you were a fan of this Hermoso. I don't see a video review 'PINNED' for the RyJ yet - so what's the story here?

El Presidente Posted January 28, 2009 Author Posted January 28, 2009 You truly are a despicable individual Ken. The reality is that we arrived at Kens house (just as St Vincent De Paul were dropping off some clothes......notice his new T shirt?) and conducted the review of the R&J Exgibicion No 4 first. Smithy should have that ready to put up shortly. Editing reviews takes some time along with Smithy's other tasks (I assume he has other tasks ) so we can only ever do two reviews per week and then put them up one day apart. Hopefully that clears the matter. R&J review will be up today

The back half of this cigar was quite intense. I see it delivering a real dark milk cream coffee note with a twist. Not sure what the twist will be but I am guessing sweet. I don't know when it will peak. To bring out the back end....3 years. As for your last question I really don't know. Keep in mind that these and the 50's are post 06 and from 06 appears to be the "year" that many aging theories have begun to be questioned.

I have to admit I have some '03s...
asmith Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Editing reviews takes some time along with Smithy's other tasks (I assume he has other tasks ) Other tasks??? Stuff you man.. If you want me, speak to my agent. The next review if I get time (from my so called other tasks) will be up there this evening.
