anacostiakat Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 New Years Eve saw me enjoy a Magnum 50. Great smoke but not as good as the previous I have had have been. Seems like it may be closing down just a touch. New Years Day will be a Cohiba Sublime or Double Corona. Maybe both if I'm feeling frisky. Nice lineup. I have a couple DCs in the singles drawer but have no intention of burning them yet.
Ken Gargett Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 had a lovely bolivar simones - the canadian regional release - and followed it with a glorious aged siglo vi. if the rest of the year comes close, it'll be a goodie.
josie67 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 I had a Feb 2008 Monte 2 on New Year's Eve, and it was FANTASTIC! Not sure what I am smoking New Year's Day yet.
bassman Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Had one of my last 02 RAGs last night. A monumental cigar- strong & delicious. Anyone want to sell a box?
Don Candido Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Yes, 6 cigars in 8 hours. That must be approaching an indoor record....
Ken Gargett Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 What a night! Hung out with Adam, the owner of Havana Humidor in his store in the Atlantis Casino & Resort and his store roller who ran quality control at La Corona in Havana. He told us many stories (my favorite was the double Lanceros he'd make for Saddam Hussein -- can you imagine a double Lancero?) -- we smoked for 8 hours until 3 am:Partagas D1 EL Habanos 2000 Commemorative Partagas Salomones Bolivar Gold Medal Trinidad Ingenios '07 EL H. Upmann Mag 50 Yes, 6 cigars in 8 hours. nice line up. how was the Habanos 2000 Commemorative?
Don Candido Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 nice line up. how was the Habanos 2000 Commemorative? Is that the Mareva sized smoke? I have been told those are simply Siglo II's in different clothing. What did you think? I have not tried them.
dragon Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I had a Punch Punch which was decent followed by an RyJ Escudo EL which was awful, in fact it was not only the worst EL I've ever had but also the worst cigar overall, just terrible.
Spartan Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I've waited long enough......Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios Good lord! never would I think a maduro could get better than a Padron 64 Anni but the Genios pulled it off in spades. What a fantastic cigar! Thank you Prez for turning me on to these!
Ken Gargett Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Is that the Mareva sized smoke? I have been told those are simply Siglo II's in different clothing. What did you think? I have not tried them. not had one for a while but picked up a handful ages ago from rob's bargain bin because no one was interested. i have been hugely impressed, but it is sometime since i tried one and only have one or two left. as for being the siglo 11's, i had not heard that. be really interested to hear what rob has heard. the wrappers on all of mine were ceratinly much darker than any i have ever seen on a sig 11.
Jay Hemingway Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Is that the Mareva sized smoke? I have been told those are simply Siglo II's in different clothing. What did you think? I have not tried them. yea DC this has been discussed a few times around the boards. it was also mentioned that the sig 2, festival mareva 2,000 and upman club epicure were all the same cigar. both a club epi and festival mareva was smoked back to back at a gathering in philly last year and we all (around 10 habanos smokers) came to the conclusion they were two completely different blends/cigars. the next day i smoked an entire sig II and IMO all three of these cigars are different for sure. i tell ya i would surely love to get my hands on another club epicure! one of my favorite cigars. unfortunately i have yet been able to enjoy one fully to myself.
Jay Hemingway Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 oh BTW. i enjoyed a very tasty 1980's davidoff No.1 yesterday. i have had a few from this batch and they have all been taken care of and stored properly. an excellent example of what wonders proper storage will do for a vintage habano. loads of cream and tea and smaller hints of citrus. flawless ash and draw. did not have to re-touch it even once with a flame ! a very pleasing and rewarding smoke on new year's day.
Don Candido Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I am glad I went strolling though the new topics. I missed a bunch of new stuff in a week or two of absence! Thanks for the answers - Jay and Tom. I am glad to hear they are not the same smokes. It restores some faith of mine, perhaps in question, as to the Integrity of Habanos SA. I did not know there was a Hoyo involved in that claim too. I used to say at this point, who wants to trade a Habanos 2000 and the Hoyo Club Epi, etc., but it is getting tiresome to try everything. If you have them, keep them and enjoy them! As for the Davidoff No. 1 you mentioned in your second post Jay. I really love them. Glad to hear you had a nice example.
