does anyone have a spare copy of the Min Ron Nee book for sale or knows where to get a copy? I have one already, but I have been looking for an extra copy for a good friend....I see some for sale in the UK but good lord $50-$60 just for the shipping is a bit steep. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

if i suggested that there are some in havana, that will probably not be of great assistance to you. word around is he is on a new project - that ranges to a new edition, which i'd love to see - or something completely new again. fantastic book but it is now crying out for a new edition.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I will pass on the book...even at cigarmony, $149 + shipping = still too expensive.

How does a book commant that price? I've never seen a book cost that much, even college text books. For those of you who have read it, is it worth it? What justifies that price?

I paid $80.00 for it when bought my copy back in 2003. It has been worth every penny, simply because of the wealth of detailed information about post-Revolution Cuban cigars as well as the photos. As Ken suggests, however, it is now quite dated and, at least for me, wouldn't be worth the current asking prices. There are rumors around that he is looking to produce a revised edition sometime next year...

For what it's worth, a lot of time and effort (read chargeable hours) goes into the design, pre-production, printing,

and finishing of a printed piece, especially one with a lot of imagery.

I also paid around $80 for it back in 2003, but with the current price ranging from $149 and up, it's gotten too expensive....is it worth it? ABSOLUTELY. Without a doubt it is the best reference book I have ever seen on cuban cigars, and if I didn't already have a copy of it, I would easily spend the $149 for it. I was trying to find another copy for a friend of mine, and we can't justify the near $200 price with shipping. And why is it so expensive? The price was around $80 or so when it first came out, so the ONLY reason it is so expensive now is because people are capitalizing on it's popularity.

Well, perhaps the current asking price is a function of its relative scarcity now.

As I recall, the second printing of the English language version was 10,000 copies only. 1,000 of these were alloted to a single U.S. distributor, and 200 of those were bought from the U.S. distributor by the author, who "gave" them away to members of two cigar boards in exchange for tax-deductible donations to the World Wildlife Fund of at least $75.00. Very generous, indeed.

Rumor has it that the U.S. distributor couldn't unload the rest of his allotment at his asking price. He was not in the book business principally. The books were then offered for sale by Cigars International both on-line and through its catalog. I can't recall the price there. N2adventure apparently secured some copies and offered them on his own website. He will undoubtely see this thread, and he might elaborate -- or nopt.

by chance, we were in havana when it first came out and i grabbed one - it was around $80 from memory. it has been extremely useful for me and, even if a touch dated in some respects now, still far and away the best book around. i guess you have to evaluate its value to you and decide whether now worth it or not.

If Mark is out of them, check with Lise next week as I know we have plenty. Shipping is the Killer but all inclusive I think it is $135 USD to the States.

Rob - I just sold out but will have more in Jan. when I restock everything :coverears:

Josie - Normally, I'd agree but 2003 was nearly 6 years ago. This revised ed. costs 2/3 more wholesale than it did just 3 years ago.

I definitely don't think it's worth the $200+ mark as I've seen on Amazon but the $149 + shipping (approx $10-15 for US) is fair based on other products vs their wholesale pricing.

I hope this helps

I think I have an extra 'never used' copy that cost me aound $80 - $85, going from memory.

You can have it for what I paid plus the actual cost of the US Post Office Priority Shipping plus Confirmation Delivery from NJ to you. I'll check this when we return back home on the 3rd and will confirm. If you're still interested - it will be sent out asap.

i can help you to get a brand new one (2nd Edition) at 'Fatcigar's Special' price of USD70.50. But for shipping, i would suggest going by sea (not airmail) simply because of its size & weight...that's if you are not in a hurry (probably 3-4 weeks to US from Hong Kong).

Shoot me a PM if interested.
