Taino Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Partagas Shorts KBE Feb 05 I would not have much more time to review a cigar so I wanted to review one of my favorites in the small vitola's range, for this last contest of the year. General look: good construction and wrapper. Dry aroma is tea and just pure tobacco. Cuban cut and draw is just perfect. 1st third: coffee, dry wood and bitter almond flavors pop up immediately. Medium in strength. Burn is univen. 2nd third: coffee, dry wood and bitter almond are still the predominant flavours, bitter almond picks up a little. Burn stabilizes and goes in the right track. Not a very complex smoke but just feels right. 3rd third: same flavors as before but the cigars acquires a bit more strength and some milk and caramel appear. Dry wood is not present here any more and the cigars lives a pleasant herbaceous after taste. In this third the cigar is in the upper corner of the medium. Overall impression: Very very enjoyable little cigar, with lots of character but not overly power. I think you cannot ask much more from vitolas like perlas or minutos, the right flavors and complexity for a small vitola. The morning cigar for champions. I just wished I had smaller fingers to make it last longer.
android Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Thanks for the nice review...I completly agree with you, glorious cigar, always gives me just what I'm looking for in a quick fix. Now that the weather has turned cold I've pulled the cab closer to the front of the humi for a reminder to enjoy more often. Cheers Andy
shrink Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Very nice review. I may have the same boxcode, and they are marvelous. Just the right balance between the flavors and the peppery spice. My only complaint is that they aren't lonsdales. Edit: I fired up one of these FEB05 shorts tonite. Wanted a quick fix before bedtime, and I got it.. in spades. This is actually one of the strongest, most peppery and flavorful Partagas in my quiver. I nursed it for an hour, and enjoyed every toke. I'm glad I've got another cab lying in wait; these have unlimited aging potential.
Colt45 Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Nice review. I've still yet to try these (I need more Bolivar CJs as well).
mkz Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Nice review. The shorts are unfortunately one of the few from Partagas that doesnt ring my bell at all...
soltino Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 I have a box of these from 06 and they are full of zest and spice, a great cigar, but I can't face them in the morning. I find them too strong early on - the box I have appears to be fairly potent, I often feel a bit whoozy are finishing one of them as the nicotine content does seem to be pretty high. This is an afternoon cigar for me, around 4pm with the last coffee of the day Great review though Taino, thanks again!
Taino Posted December 24, 2008 Author Posted December 24, 2008 What you say soltino surprises me, i've never tried a party short as strong as you describe... Guest jakester Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 What you say soltino surprises me, i've never tried a party short as strong as you describe... Soltino - I have tried a few from a cab dated Mar 06, and they are far and away the most powerful Shorts I've ever tried. Same great taste that so many of us know and love, but posessing a wonderful strength I've not seen previously from this smoke. I sleep better knowing a whole cab of them is resting peacefully . . . .
soltino Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Rob must have picked out a super strength box for me then... or I just have a weak constitution... or probably both

Ass kickers for sure. My Oct.06 cab isn't as strong but is very flavorful
Taino Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 I have an 06 cab untouched, I'll smoke and review one in january when I'm back from fishing.
OLS Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 This is one of those cigars that to me is better in the packaging most people do NOT prefer. I think the dress box short is the best version of this, and whether you believe as I do that the cigars are all the same, box or cab, the dress box just seems to rocket these into another taste zone so much earlier than the cabinets. So my advice, if you want to enjoy the PShort as a regular go to smoke, buy boxes only and leave the cabs to the people who swear by them.
whistlebritches Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 The Shorts are one of my favorite Party gars.Don't under estimate the Party Petite Corona Especiales....................not quite the strength of the Short but just as tasty if not more so. Ron
