Probably a smelting pot for some sort of foundry. If not that, then perhaps a codguard for Shreck...

I used a pot that large when I made cheese 10,000 ft. up in the swiss alps -

tho the kettle was made of copper and probably much lighter....

To catch the grape drippings after the virgins stomped the grapes. This pot was set under the virgins feet and then as it was filled it was tipped over into a vat.
