Ramon Allones Specially Selected Mar 07

After the review of the SSC I knew better than to pull out a RASS from any 08 box so I went back and got one of the few remaining mar 07 ones I had left.

Prelight: It's a beautiful stick. There are a couple of tiny little wrapper splint offs but those are all my fault. The foot is nice and even and the predraw is very clean and tastes like light tobacco. The draw feels slightly tight.

Light up - 1/3: It has no problem lighting and gives off heavy smoke. The draw is just a little tighter than I like to I run it through with the antiplug and that solves that. There is an immediate sweet taste with a really complex bitter licorice/dark chocolate flavor. After 1 cm the bitter fades off and is replaced by a rich, RICH tobacco taste. Its the kind of rich that seems to linger well past when the cigar is done! By the end of the first third some spiciness emerges on the back of the tongue.

2nd third: The spice flavors started to dominate the middle of the cigar but they too subside after a cm or so and in comes the rich tobacco flavors again along with a little leather. The spice taste is random but the smoke is getting creamier with dry roasted nut flavors. The taste on the draw is almost like creamy peanut butter but the whole time its smooth, smooth, smooth!

Final third: The finale of this cigar thankfully seems to level off to just smooth spice and leather. It's very comforting after the roller coaster of flavors I just went through. She finishes off creamy with a little spicy tingle.

Overall: I only have 2 of those mar 07 RASS left. I knew I wanted to have a good one to review and didn't want to possibly be disappointed by a younger smoke that in a year will taste just like the one I had. I'm going to be holding onto those 2 for a LONG time! Overall its a great cigar. The only negatives I could find were that the draw was slightly tight and the burn wasn't always even.

If you can find the early 07's you have to PM me and let me know where!!! I'd walk over my own mother just to get another box. Okay... not my mother... but I'd walk over SOMEONE'S mother to get one!

No question about it... early 2007 RASS are on track to be among the best ever rolled. I've sampled a few just to take the measure of their youthful exuberance; the rest of the cab are gonna take a long, long nap.

Great review! That early 07 period was special for quite a few cigars inclusive the RASS.
