Defense Minister Joel Fitzgibbon says the break which begins Dec 3rd is "just a way of saying thank you and encouraging them to stay in the service." Another one that has me scratching my head. . . Don Candido Posted November 20, 2008 Share Posted November 20, 2008 Giving your Sailors a break is a nice gesture - I guess. I did not know they took vacations. The part I do not understand is the pre-announcement. This is in just enough time for someone to plan and then mount a naval attack. Bush will still be in office until Jan. 20. He might decide he has a hankering for Koala steak... He could combine that with the harm he believes the Ausi accent does to the English language and voila, "Operation Dead Koala." ARRV Posted November 20, 2008 Share Posted November 20, 2008 It's only a stand down for those not on active service - ie in the gulf or mucking around the Timor sea etc. So they've basically cancelled training missions to allow people to have Christmas with their families which makes sense I think.
