A gift from Danm.528i - I do not have the month or factory codes.

Construction: Nothing amiss - very good.

Wrapper: Medium+ colorado. Smooth and silky to the touch. A light, even sheen.

Pre light aroma / draw: Extreme barnyard funk. I thought detected a whisper of ammonia.

Firm draw with a taste of straightforward tobacco.

Draw / burn: Excellent firm draw with wonderful smoke volume. A very good burn that got a

bit sketchy at the very end.

Taste: This will be fairly brief.... This one reminded me quite a bit of my first try of the '06 Cohiba

Piramide EL. A real powerhouse. All the subtlety of being hit with an anvil wrapped in barbed wire.

Full bodied, tannic, with the sharpness of youth.

But instead of being put off, I sat there wishing I had a box in deep storage. Though I can't

say what this might evolve into, in my opinion, it has all the stuffing for long term aging.

Score: Impossible to objectively score at this time.

Comments: Of course, this was but one cigar - I'd be very interested to hear member thoughts on

'06s and '07s.

My thanks to Dan for the great opportunity to try this cigar.

I have a box of Nov 06 that have been excellent. I just checked the box over the weekend and 15 left. I would imagine they would be quite a treat with 5 plus years age. I need to grab some more as they are such a tasty smoke! Have heard 07's are very good but maybe other members can provide more feedback.

Nice review Colt!

The Corona Especiales along with the Lancero are my favorite Cohibas. These two vitolas display the best Cohiba Honey sweetness and pure vanilla and coffee beany flavors in my opinion. These are so totally different from the Siglo or the Maduro 5 lines of the Cohiba Marca.

im gonna have to try some as I absolutely love Cohiba as a whole. Chuck, I seem to get quite a bit of honey sweetness in the Siglo III's I have from early 07. This is unique and different to my I's, IV's, VI's, and Robustos. Is it more intense in your opinion?

Ross,

You are welcome - it was my pleasure.

Having said that, I have to admit that I lied - the box code was PLM FEB 07 - this was not from my '06 box. (I will blame my memory lapse on the Murphy's Irish Stout )

I agree with your assessment that there is still some youthfullness to this cigar, but it should be stellar with a bit of age on it. I tried one from my '06 box last night, and one year smoothed out some of the rough edges, I can imagine what 5 will do.

Thanks Dan, I've amended the thread title. The aging potential of these seems huge.

Thanks again for your generosity!

I am going to piggy back on this already started thread even though I have a different box code

Cohiba Corona Especiales MEL MAR 08

Colorado Light Brown wrapper in Ok shape, silky feeling

50 min smoke

Ash was White & tight w/ cone present

Even burn rate and semi-firm resistance

Flavors were coffee beans, jelly, white pepper, vanilla, white chocolate

Initial puff was sweet, very mild with a hint of the coffee beans

Picks up strength in 2/3

Similar ending to the Monte #1 06 I reviewed

No aftertaste which was pleasant

Very good cigar minus the price point

Medium cigar for me

9.2/10

I'm in agreement with many of the comments posted on this thread. Like Chuck, I find the Lanceros and CE's very much to my taste. With age, they're unbeatable. Sounds like the recent issues are benefiting from the aged tobaccos being rolled these days. Damn, I better grab some '08s before they're gone.

I find definite honeyed flavors in a box of FEB 08 Siglo Vs. Made me buy a second one.
