Spartan Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 As I was digging through what little is left in my humidor I noticed this suspicious looking thing (near the foot) on one of my last remaining habanos. :-| I have about 10 sticks residing in the humidor and they all look normal. I immeadately placed this one in isolation until further notice. My hygrometer is reading 27c/68% I'm praying it's not the start of something evil :crying:
shrink Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Fear not. I've seen similar things on lots of smokes. It's a natural abberation on the leaf resulting from some minor damage while still on the plant. Not indicative of beetles. If you still have concerns, you should smoke it ASAP!
Tampa1257 Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 I agree with Shrink, Nothing to fear about, it looks like a normal cigar wrapper.
asmith Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 » I'm praying it's not the start of something evil :crying: During my early days as an apprentice learning from Rob, he taught me a lot about wrapper tobacco. If my memory serves me correctly that little spot is a simple scaring of the leaf. The Cubans call it an 'Angel Kiss' it occurs when a little bit of dew is left on the leaf and the morning raise of the sun are magnified through the dew and scar the leaf. Nothing to be worried about here. ;-)

Fishhound Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 You have no worrys, that is normal for Habanos.
asmith Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 » I may have made that up Smithy:-D No really? So that crap about angels and dew was just to get a sale?

Professor Twain Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 As long as you don't get a burning sensation when you smoke it, everything is fine.

Spartan Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 Whew! well thats a relief...as for the high temp. I wasnt running the AC for the last few days so It did get a little warm. I moved the humidor downstairs where it's cooler for now.
rallones Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 » » My hygrometer is reading 27c/68% » » I'm praying it's not the start of something evil :crying: » » 27c... thats about 80F! Keeping your smokes in an environment this warm makes a beetle incident an inevitability.

Why is that? Are there beetles in every box of cigars? - I certainly dont hope so.
Shelby07 Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 » » Why is that? Are there beetles in every box of cigars? - I certainly dont » hope so. Not in every box... they are indeed fairly rare. But the cold, hard fact is that it only takes one.
sepp Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 » Not in every box... they are indeed fairly rare. But the cold, hard fact » is that it only takes one. It really only takes "one egg" in the folds of one stick that didn't get cold enough in the Habanos freezers. Temp up for a few days the egg can hatch and the cycle starts...
