asmith Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 » Welcome back Smithy Thanks for the kind words guys, including yours Ken. Looking forward to a couple more cigars, reviews, laughs and changing the world on the deck with Ayala and Lisa.
Tampa1257 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Welcome back Smithy!!! Your cigar stash must have been running low...........;-) Good to see you back at Club Czar, now just stay away from the Bath House across the street, you know that is Ken's playground!
harryleech Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I think I speak for all newbies on this board when I say: Smithy who? I have heard his name whispered in reverential tones on this board in the few months that I have been here, I have heard prophesies of a second coming, tales of bravery, adventue and grandeur, but I know so little of this fabled resident of chez Czar. How can I seperate the myth from the reality? How do I know what is true and what is mere rumour, conjecture and slander? Teach me, someone, please!

Smithy, Man(?) of Mystery: He came to the Czar, young full of life...... Bright eyed, full of vigor, not knowing what he was in for, he began work in earnest at ye olde cigar store. Rob showed him the ropes, Lisa kept him in line, yet right from the start someone plied him with wine. He thought to himself "man this job ain't half bad, wine and cigars all day long and for free - The shoe's got to drop, I just hope not on me". But the shoe it did drop, and mightily so - not all wine and roses, how was he to know? That packing cigars all day long is a chore, and packing up singles he'd detest even more. "How many damn singles does this bloke really need?", packing them up 'till his fingers did bleed. Then one fateful morning came a call from RA - "Smithy, I've got something to show you, and it's just cross the way". And so they began, the confusions of life, Smithy unsure where he stood.... He went on a trip to try and sort things out, and returned to find Czar House doors locked. An omen he thought, as he half hung his head - Smithy'd been thrown from the flock. And so he did go traveling north to new lands, but that's another story to tell. He's come back full circle to where it began, and now it's the end of this poem - He's back with a vengeance, break out the wine and cigars - Smithy, welcome home.
sepp Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 » He came to the Czar, young full of life...... That's quite a start! Thanks for getting us the scoop!
asmith Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 » I'm no expert......... Who else would have a shot at summing up Smithy's life into a poem but you Colt. I'll see you my friend at the card table! :-)
El Presidente Posted August 6, 2008 Author Posted August 6, 2008 I almost cried reading that Colt Harry, DC asked not long ago for the reason Smithy left. This is an accurate assessment. It all went to his head DC. The power, the fame, the debauchery. The kid had it all. Wine and cigars at beck and call. His packing is legendary....hospital corner folds, razor sharp wit. His palate developed to rediculous levels....camembert, fruit salad....he was on the verge of moving to Hong Kong. I knew something was not right.....the new handlebar moustache...then the goatee. Rumour abounded of nipple piercings (....ok...I may have started that one). Then one day we found him slumped across the packing desk....a can on glue remover (citrus aroma) and a plastic bag still clutched in his hand. Tragic story but a lesson to all young men looking for a start in this industry. Smithy could have been anything...could have had it all (.....at Czars that means his own lighter). I love him like a brother but in the end we agreed that he had to go and find himself. He hopped on his scooter...flipped the propellar on his cap and rode into the west...lise and I with tears in our eyes.

El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Well Smithy popped in yesterday afternoon carrying a a bottle of wine a laptop and some documents. I have a sneaking suspicion that the "Czar Deck" will be his new office as he has moved back to Brisbane after completing the "Fudge Packer International" resort in North Queensland. I pulled out a few Rainer customs which were good but needing to be put away for a few years. Well he tapped on his laptop for the opening half hour and then had to take an urgent call. He didn't let on but I could hear it was his mother. Finally he gave up the pretense and we caught up over another bottle of wine a Cohiba and a Partagas. Smithy has plenty on his plate but he graciously offered to give us a hand when Lisa is away in a few weeks time. Great to have you back mate
