phxkev Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Hello from Phoenix. Today's forecast is a quite pleasant 112 degrees (F) with a relative humidity of SIX percent. See, it IS a dry heat. I'm craving a cigar and am thinking about going outside and sitting in the shade on my patio with a cool, refreshing beverage. But you can't escape the heat even in the shade. So what late afternoon smoke would you all recommend in such conditions? Thanks!

Seeing as though I am not to far away (Sierra Vista) not quite as hot but hot none the less. I can say that I have yet to find a bad cigar in any climate. Having said that though, I tend to stay away from the really heavy full bodied smokes until the sun goes down.
Colt45 Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 » So what late afternoon smoke would you all recommend in such conditions? Even with the low humidity, with that kind of heat I doubt I could smoke. I'll have to go off the board and trade the cigars for some cold Pacificos, Red Stripes, or Hornitos margaritas :-)
smokum Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Sir Winnie...nice and enjoyble..not overpowering. A PL Petit Corona would be nice too...or a JL1 or 2 or a Cohiba Coronas Especial or a ......aww hell anything would be good in the shade with something cold !!!
anacostiakat Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 See, I was thinking that with that heat you would want a shorter smoke. Say, no bigger than a robo if that. The marca doesnt matter. Whatever you like.

Whatever » you like. Yea I missed that part and just talked about strength. I aslo tend to favor shoters, half coronas do me best. If for no other reason than the fact that it is just so damned hot to be outside. Plus I find myself drinking something cold as well which means combine heat and time in sun, with a smoke and 2 or three stiff drinks and it can be an unpleasant afternoon in the sun.
tigger Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 I'd lean toward shorter and not too heavy. In no particular order: -Rafael Gonzales PE or PC -Trinidad Reyes -Diplomaticos No. 4 -ERDMs in general -Hoyo Epicure No. 2

Them all!!! :-) I tend to go with the lighter cigars: Trinidad Reyes, La Gloria Cubana Tainos, Hoyo Epi 2 if I'm having an occasional afternoon smoke in good weather. At night, maybe a Montecristo No. 2, or a Punch Double Corona (love those) or my current favourite the Hoyo Regalos....
jdbrown Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 A half corona or minuto and a gallon of Ice water. I would not worry about it being too heavy. The main goal would be to satisfy the craving and get the hell back inside! Punch Petite Punch, El Principe etc
smokum Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Guess I never had to worry abiyt that bad of heat !!! I am usually more concerned with freezing weather. Summer seems to last 3 weeks around here these days.
El Presidente Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 San Cristobal Principe Sancho Panza Non Plus San Cristobal La Punta Sancho Panze Belicoso Rafael Ginzalez Corona Extra Juan Lopez Petit Corona
shrink Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Rafael Gonzalez Lonsdale Juan Lopez Petit Corona Vegas Robaina Classico Prez was almost right!
Mel Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Just because it's short does not mean it can't satisfy.;-) You boys(Prez. and Shrink) left out the best little cigar, the Partagas Short.
harryleech Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 » San Cristobal Principe » Sancho Panza Non Plus » San Cristobal La Punta » Sancho Panze Belicoso » Rafael Ginzalez Corona Extra » Juan Lopez Petit Corona Oooohhh, good call. I'd almost forgotten the Principe, great warm weather cigar, as is the La Punta. I can see how you got to your position :-D
greenpimp Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Plus the Ramon Allones Small club corona. It's hotter than hell here today. 106. Beat the old record by like 7 or 8 degrees.
shrink Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 » Partagas Corona! He asked what cigar to smoke in HOT weather... NOT what cigar will make it feel like HOT weather.
greenpimp Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 One off the all-time, any day of the year record in San Luis Obispo today. 110. What a day for the first day of summer. We are all in trouble. So what happens when it is this hot (and 60% humidity where I live?) No cigar. Sadness and misery and but sweat reign.
