anacostiakat Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 TEBSEP07 arrived Jan of this year. Firm well packed specimen. Smell at cold straight from humi is slight earthiness. This is the third from the box. Nice dark wrapper. Cut revealed dimple and a somewhat tight draw. Gave it a message the likes of you would get from a Saigon ***** and fired her up! :-D Perfect razor sharp burn from the get-go. I am pairing this with Zacapa 23 year centenario. Draw at cold revealed dark chocolate. First impressions are of earthiness, toasted nutty chocolate along with some leather and smoked paprika maybe. Very good start as the saddleup is called for the Preakness! Big Brown is an impressive horse and I am anxious to see how this race goes. Back to the cigar. The nose reveals little spice. Mostly smooth semi-sweet chocolate and hints of earth and leather. Wrapped in smokey paprika. It is very enjoyable to just have this robusto in you mouth between draws. At the end of the first third a fuller draw produces more paprika based spice but it is very smooth as you might expect from a young cigar. Wow Big Brownie ran away from the pack! Didnt put the flowers on him as he doesnt like them. What a stud! I know, I know. It is the cigar stupid. Entering the second third it is leather that is raising its' head as the draw has opened up as the cigar has warmed. I gotta say I feel much better after last nights' fiasco with the Gigante. I am more of a Partagas Pimp than a Boli ***** but this does right my roll. Next sip the count chocula returns nicely along with some espresso. Well compacted striated ash holds for two inches easily. As I rotate her and take another plung she releases a little more smokey spice. Still nothing overpowering which really leads right into my ageing hopes for these. Finally ashed it around two inches or more. One touch-up as she canoed a little but I like to spoon. ;-) At the halfway mark some bitter dark chocolate is prevalent. I am a little worried that the bitter will take hold and there will be no royalness. More like a hastle in the castle. I hope like hell this doesnt turn into malice in the palace. :-P I conciously slow down. This is pretty interesting for me as I am a very slow smoker and easily take an hour and a half to smoke a robusto. Sometimes more. But I can feel the heat in the stick and want to see what happens. I notice the ash has stayed firm and holds an inch or more easily at a time. Beautiful 77 degree evening starting here (seven o'clock pm). I decide to make a culebra for my second libation with the Zacapa. Nothing fancy. Liberal Zacapa, Diet Pepsi and quarter fresh lime. Hitting the band mark and this baby is all dark cuban lady. More strength in the nose. Solid medium/full. Some of this is the impetuousness of youth. Like Barry Fitzgerald's line in the Quiet Man on arriving at White 'O Morn the morning after the wedding night! About two inches from the end she get naggy and bitter. Would have thought her youth would have kept her from reaching this plateau. Just kidding! The analogy doesnt work in this case, as we all know. Have to dump her at this point. It was a nice ride. I do prefer experience over potential! :-) I would give this a high 8. Maybe 88 with a potential for a 95 in about 3-5 years. Probably five. I am glad I have a box to try out of and one to sleep. Thanks again to our hosts!
zuma Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Nice review in the midst of interesting prose... Makes me wish I had a stash of 'em.
El Presidente Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 A cigar tells a lot about a man. In your case..... horses, rum and whores..... Your review mirrored for me so many young examples of Bolivar Royal Corona. You have to love them
toasterhead Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Hey anacostiakat, Thanks for the review. I also find these intriguing and frustrating toward the end. My POS Mar 07 box was great at first but now is befuddled. Oh well :-) Dave
