first timers

» My husband and I stayed in the US for a week on the way back from Cuba and we had about 100 sticks in our bag.... we had no problems with the US Customs....

Did you declare them?

I assumed that you did... but did you have to mention their origin... or did you have to remove the bands...

I will have to go through the US in the next few months (with a few Cuban cigars on moi)... and I would not want them confiscated (and I would not risk not declaring them)...

Since I realise that it may not be appropriate to answer here... at least PM reply would be most appreciated... cheers

Shelles,

As far as best cigars to try, a little information of what/whether you've smoked in the past would be helpful. There's a wide variety of styles and strengths of Havana cigars.

Buy only from official LCDH stores, that's La Casa de Habanos or something like that. The staff are well trained and will advise you well.

DO NOT buy from the street. Every other Cuban has a sister, mother, brother, aunt and daughter who works in a cigar factory and will offer cheap cigars. Avoid like the plague. Have a nice trip, you'll love it.

All we declared is that we had some tobacco products ..... the Customs guys asked us how our trip to Cuba was and wished us a great stay in America ..... They are not hard on Australian citizens .... we came through with 200 sticks in total...

amazing Lis, US Customs scares the **** out of me at the best of times even though I normally have done nothing wrong(maybe I have been listening to Rob's horror stories too much!) 200 sticks!! my palms would be sweety and my speech slurred just thinking about getting through customs with that load tucked away!

Worst case senario is that they would take and hold your cigars at your point of arrival and give them back when you leave , as a non citizen the US embargo only permits our gov't to hold your cigars not confiscate them. Then again customs is a joke anyway. I crossed into the US from Canada via auto on the Saturday after September

11th 2001 and was not searched.

» I didn't give them a chance to ask :-) I just smiled and chatted to

» Just smile and they get confused :lol2:

I am not surprised that your smile is the key!

Last time I smiled out of courtesy to US customs agents they called in the dogs to search for drugs... and the oz passport seemed worry'em... no more smiles since then... and all's been fine...
