I know this cigar has both a loyal following of people who enjoy it and probably an equal group that pass on it everytime. I am in the camp that love these although I admit it was the first box I ever ordered from Rob and they are special to me.

What is it about this cigar that polarizes people? I have been smoking from a box of 03 this year and they all have been great. It is a balmy 40 degrees in Chicago today so I thought I would fire one up and this one is just as good as the others. Beautiful Colorado wrapper, clean tobacco taste, starts off with the charred cherry, raisin undertone to it and just lets me sit back and enjoy the day.

For those who do not enjoy these, I would be interested in what part of the profile that turns you away or is it draw issues? I would also be interested in any tasting notes from other years. I have a box of 05 sitting un-touched and just hope they can be as good (wrapper is a lot darker on these). I am also sad to say this is my first cigar of 2008 and we are already 12 days into the year. I have promised myself more cigar time, less work in 2008......I am guessing this is Rob's daily thought :-D

Call me a waffler, but I think I fall kind of in the middle with this one. I've been smoking some

from '05 (A/T) and for the most part enjoy them. But overall, I find them to be rather dry and woody,

especially on the finish.

So given a choice in this format, I'm more likely to reach for a Bolivar CG, Upmann SW, RA Estupendo,

even the LGC Tainos or Sancho Panza CG. For me, the RyJ is a change of pace cigar.

I have only had one or two from more recent production.

They were shadows of my '00s or 99s. Leading me to believe that at the very least they need age.

So I have not acquired any. If I hear/read some reviews on current production that are promising I might try.

I've had some outstanding RyJ Churchills from '98 through '03, but I've also had some duds; the flavor quality hasn't been consistent.

For my money, the most reliable RyJ in recent memory has been the Short Churchill A/T. I know, same cigar as in the DB, but I think the tubos age better. There's nothing like the aroma of a well-aged tubo!

I remember this cigar from my childhood as my father loved this cigar and always was smoking them. I would always just stand nearby because I love the aroma of this cigar. My father was a mercnant seamen and one of his port of calls was Cuba before the embargo and he always brought home boxes of these cigars.

As I grew older my father gave them to me and to this day I still love this cigar more than any other.

It also never fails that whenever I'm smoking a RyJ my wife will stop by my firehouse to say hello and say I just love that cigar while she volunteers to cook dinner for the crew.

I'll never pass up a RyJ Churchill and my crew will never pass up my wifes cooking.

I had my 1st RyJ Churchill in Cabo last August and loved it. In fact, my next purchase will be a box of these. My plan is long term aging maybe smoking 1 a year to moniter the changes.

Not very impressed with the bland 04s I had, but it may have been the year & not the cigar. Most 04s I've had have been pretty bland.
