El Presidente Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Ken left yesterday for Christmas Island (7 hr flight ) on a 7 day bonefishing and Giant Trevally fishing expedition. He had a serious new 12 weight Sage rod, brand new reel and enough fly's to last a lifetime. Ken just text me to say he was in Sydney, home by 4pm....and to pop in tonight for a cigar at his place. I assume his trip did not go well ;-)

Ken Gargett Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 can't say too much at the moment. have to wait to hear back from a certain brain dead airline (who are unlikely to ever try and convince me again that 'we are just as upset that this has happened as you are'). they are off trying to work out just how huge the legal costs bill will be if it does involve a QC.

El Presidente Posted January 10, 2008 Author Posted January 10, 2008 Ken plans for 6 months to go to Christmas Island with friends to fish Bonefish and Giant Trevally. It is a paradise for these species. Located about 8 hours from Australia in the Pacific. Ken arrives at the airport to find that his plane has not yet left Fiji (three hours away). Ken works out that if plane arrives three hours late he will have missed his connecting flight in Fiji (to Christmas Island) by one hour. Ken approaches airline at checkin and explains the situation and is told that connection will be made as they will hold the plane in Fiji. He checks in and later, before boarding the plane he confirms again with Arlines management that the plane will be held in fiji. Confirmation given as well as assurances that all will be well. Ken arrives in Fiji. Connecting Plane left an hour prior.....only one flight to Christmas Island per week. Ken blows up. Ken blows up again. Ken is sent to the Bus which will take him to the Airport hotel After waiting for the bus for some considerable time....he is told it left an hour prior Ken blows up Bus arrives Ken is put in a hotel near the airport to stay overnight before catching a flight back to Australia the following day. The hotel has no running Hot water. ken arrives for breakfast the followingn morning at 5:45 am. Buffet is all layed out with manager in attendance. ken approaches the buffet but is told breakfast does not commence until 6am. Ken blows up. ken does a few laps around the hotel until 6am and again approaches the breakfast buffet where the manager asks "Will you be having breakfast this morning sir" Ken blows up Ken hops on a morning flight to Sydney where he needs to get a connecting flight home to Brisbane. He sits in 41D. A Kiwi comes up and says to get out of 41 D as it is his seat. Ken produces his ticket...41D. They issued two tickets for the same seat. Ken blows up. I had dinner and a few cigars with Ken last night....most entertaining
Ken Gargett Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 as usual, there is a small amount of truth in what rob says but he has things mixed to a degree. will, depending on any future agreement with braindead airline, describe the unfolding of the events. i will say that the manager of said braindead airline told me that 'we are as unhappy as you are about this'. i really do not think that they will ever suggest that again to any customer.
shrink Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Ken...possible tragedy So, where's the tragedy?
Guest Warren Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 So Ken ,how was Fiji it's a pretty nice place right. Full of happy Fijians. Look on the bright side at least they didn't fly you to Auckland.:-D Look on the bright side Mate.
Claudius Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 OMG!! I hate it when I have to stay over in some crappy hotel because I missed a flight and then have to deal with moronic hotel employees. Other than that, the most disturbing about the whole thing is the thought of Ken with a Kiwi on his lap on that plane
Freefallguy Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 He told me about the new 12 wt. rod… how he had to duck every time he cast… maybe the thing scared enough not to go. Or, more likely, he had not found someone to cast for him.
Freefallguy Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 » So, where's the tragedy? No living fish were harmed in this portrayal. WAIT… the fish had nothing to fear anyway!!!
