habanablue Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Was in a book store the other day and came across what looks like a great read - 'Churchill's Cigar'. From my quick flip through, it details Winston's love of cigars, how they became a part of his 'legend' and the measures the British went to to ensure what he smoked wasn't laced with poison duding the war years. Credit card is currently maxed out for Christmas but this looks a treat and will def. be picking up a copy in the new year.
trumpetchris Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 It was a good read. Pick it up. Great stories about how he got gifts of cigars during WWII. Also gets me excited about going to JJ Fox in January!
Professor Twain Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 I read this, it is a fun book, easy reading. Most interesting to me was the lengths that were undertaken to assure that nobody poisoned Churchill with cigars. He was a world class mooch as well, fun to read about all of his sources. Another interesting feature is how he got his cigars in the aftermath of Castro taking over, he started getting cigars rolled in Miami (by some people who later became well known in the industry) from Cuban tobacco.
Mel39 Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 Don't know if it's in the book but read that at important meetings he would put people off guard by having them concentrating on his cigar ash that didn't fall as he had poked a paper clip in the foot. A great man who I believe saved us from the Hun by his inspirational leadership.
CigarZen Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 Does the book say what Churchill's favorite cigar was? (It was a trivia Q that I never got the answers to. Thanks!)
trumpetchris Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 » Does the book say what Churchill's favorite cigar was? (It was a trivia Q » that I never got the answers to. Thanks!) He smoked a lot of the R&J size that became known as the Churchill.
Jimmy2 Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 It was produced for Winston only during the WW2 and later became regular production in 1947 when he visited Cuba. La Aroma de Cuba was another favorite of Churchill early in his life.
