ARRV Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Guys, My wife is due with our first born in late February 08. Can you please list the cigars one would normally hand around to celebrate - asking now so I can put them down for a month or so before handing them out. So my question is - which cigars would you buy now to hand around in Feb next year to celebrate the first born (don't know the sex and will not find out). Assume 5 cigars (5 pack) or maybe 12 max to go around. Or any combination of singles but not a box. And czar has to have them. As I will order them only from the Czar. (and price, obviously, no issue (can't skimp now)). Your suggestions please..!
tigger Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Are some or all of the recipients seasoned smokers? Knowing that will be helpful for people making recommendations, I think.
Colt45 Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Congrats ARRV! My first choice would probably br the Cohiba Robusto, especially if they are good friends and know a good cigar.
trumpetchris Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 If you only need five, go with something huge. Like a Sancho Panza Sancho. Although the Gold Medals are fantastic right now, so you wouldn't feel like you're smoking a young stick.

First of all Congratulations! I suggest Cohiba Siglo VI if they are cigar smokers. Cohiba Siglo IV if they are not. They are both crowd pleasers and they are both suitable for an occasion as grand as your first born. I do not know how many people would consider these cigars choices one would "normally hand around to celebrate." But then again, there is nothing normal about having your first born... Cheers, DC
shrink Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Sorry, misread this... I thought you were looking to trade your First Child for some Cigars.
Colt45 Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 » Sorry, misread this... » » I thought you were looking to trade your First Child for some Cigars. I initially thought he meant what cigar to give to his new child - I was going to recommend a perla, or perhaps some mini cigarillos........
broozer Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 well, there's many that come in 10 packs and 15 packs. if the people you are going to be handing these out to don't normally smoke then i'd get some mild cigars. montecristo's come to mind. if they are seasoned cigar smokers then buy a 10 count box of BGM's or SIG VI's. i'd basically just buy something that you know you already like. bruce
Mel39 Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 » Sorry, misread this... » » I thought you were looking to trade your First Child for some Cigars. You are a scream Shrink. Have you ever subjected yourself to a compatriot's couch? Mel39
tandblov Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 I wouldn't waste your money on a cohiba if the people you are celebrating with are not cigar enthusiasts. I would second Broozer suggestion of a milder cigar, such as a ERDM choix supreme ( a very forgiving cigar, good flavor, but medium IMO). Upman Corona Major is another, the tube appeals to many, both regular smokers and non. You could also get a 10 count box of RyJ churchills, a little more pricey, and not a mild cigar, (more med. to my taste) but with great name recognition and a excellent smoke. If they are experienced smokers, then thats another kettle of fish.
Professor Twain Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 I like the Boli Gold Medal for this, it is a beautiful, memorable cigar. Buy one box to smoke with your friends and another to put away, smoke one every year on your child's birthday.
El Presidente Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Congratulations! Such an event calls for a Behike Humidor. Smoke the cigars and use the humidor as a Basinnet :-D or Montecristo Edmundo Travel Humidor. Smoke the 10 cigars and always keep the Montecristo humidor as a momento but inscribe the date of birth and your new borns name on the cedar of the inside lid. Pass it on to them when they turn 21.

ARRV Posted December 18, 2007 Author Posted December 18, 2007 Thanks Guys, I think I know what I want now - Rob do you ship those Behikes to Sydney? :-D Heading off on holidays today so will email order on return. Cheers Al
SonGoku Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 As it has been suggested ERDM Choix Supreme is probably a good choice for people who usually don't smoke cigars as they are pretty mild imo. One of my best friends had his first born child (a boy too)yesterday and I convinced him to buy a box of PSD4's to hand out to his friends :-D I'm going by the hospital on my way home today to congratulate his gf and give some flowers. Not to collect my PSD4 :-D :-D Another hing I convinced him to do was something I came across at another cigar board. Buy a box of premium cigars and only smoke one everytime your son has his birthday. This way in some years you will have a very nice aged cigar once every year. I think it's a pretty nice tradition to have. And who knows maybe your son will help you smoke the last ones of the box when he gets old enough?? Would be cool to be able to share a cigar with your first born son at his 18th birthday knowing that you bought the box when he was born :-)

Miami101 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I'm also having my 1st baby around Feb. I like what Lisa/El Prez told me to pick a good box up of 25/50...and only smoke one cigar each year......the box should be the same year as your kid...who knows if you have a boy you might one day share a cigar from the box.... Question: Boy, or Girl???
El Presidente Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Congrats Miami! Your life of leisure is about to come to an abrupt end
Colt45 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 » Congrats Miami! » » Your life of leisure is about to come to an abrupt end And cigar money will become diaper money....... Congrats Carlos :-)

Tampa1257 Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Not knowing the level of cigar smoker that you may pass out cigars to, I would hate to see Bolivar Gold Medals wasted after only a few puffs. Might suggest Cohiba Siglo II's in Tubos. Excellent cigar, everyone knows the Brand "Cohiba" and the Siglo II is an excellent cigar, besides the Tubo packaging looks cool as hell!:-D
