El Presidente Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 This should prove a usefull resource for the travellers amongst us of which there are plenty. I your travels, what is the best hotel (experience/service/standard of rooms) that you have stayed and that you go back to...or would go back to in a heartbeat. This can be International or domestic. Please list no more than two. I have only really stayed in one standout hotel that exceeded my every expectation. Not the most palatial by any means but the rooms are excellent and the service at least 50% better than any other hotel I have personally experienced. Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong
cls515 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 » Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong The Mandarin in Makati Manila Philippines is also exceptional, the only drawback is Kipling's Cigar Bar is a bit overpriced but the hotel and bar overall is exquisite. My two choices would be: 1) Right down the street from the Mandarin in Makati is the City Garden hotel. The hotel has a pool located on the roof with a bar and is cigar friendly. After buying a cigar from Kipling's I walked back to City Garden and enjoyed it on the roof overlooking Makati with a San Miguel, chit chatting with locals travelers. Best hotel I've ever stayed at. 2) Pearl Farm Beach Resort - Not really a hotel, more along a resort, and a bit pricey, but wow. The resort is hidden away on an island near Davao, Philippines. I stayed there on my honeymoon, I was able to get a small cottage standing on stilts in the ocean. Great thing about this was there was a deck and bench to sit and enjoy a cigar in the twilight ocean (amazing), no mosquitos, and no wind. Service was exceptional, you will be treated like a king. The food is fit for kings as well, seriously it is buffet style with about 5 dishes each of beef, chicken, seafood, pork, don't forget sushi, and also don't forget about 20 desserts. Really an amazing place.
Claudius Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I usually stay at 4 or 5 star hotels around the world, but not the super fancy ones, just the ones with a good size room and bed and decent bothroom (and huge breakfast buffets :-D) that can be had for around 200 USD. A friend of mine told me about this hotel in Japan where the staff come into your room on their knees (and walk around on them all the time they are in your room) just to make sure they are not taller than you. They bow their head while talking to you etc., clean your shoes, comb and other stuff so it looks like new, walk out behind you in the pouring rain and wave at you until your car disappears when you leave. Dinner is like 20 courses of the most meticulously prepared very best stuff money can buy. Totally crazy stuff, but it sounded more like submission that makes you uncomfortable than service, really. :-|
habanohal Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Secrets Excellance Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Also great memories there too ( what married life should always be like)
The Wise Old owl Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I am certainly not as well traveled as other visitors here, but I do love what used to be the Hyatt, now the Marriott at Hilton Head. The outdoor pool and cabana ovelooking the finest beach in South Carolina is a great cigar and umbrella drink setting. Again, another local favorite is the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. A fine and outstanding historic inn with a fire place big enough for you and all you friends to stand in, with a setting room (cigar friendly) and bar and a porch wide enough for wheelchair races overlooking the beautiful NC mountains. The Spa and other amenities will surely win you over, google it if you have the chance!

Justinwzp Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman was the best hotel I've had the pleasure of staying at. I've been all over the world but that RC was by far the best.... AMAZING $1000 a night though....that hurts when it comes time to check-out
