Ben Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Argh Political Correctness. Christ it shits me it's a bloody cancer on society. See what happens when the Hippies grow up and take charge.
Tampa1257 Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 The really sad part is that all these are TRUE. What a Sad Political Correctness State of affairs we live in!
zuma Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 » created by democracy Oh... yeah... luscious democracy... we get to choose a demagogue, and bureaucratic entourage, that will fool us with petty rulings... but, alas, it is not the system that is the problem... it is that in its current variety it attracts stupid megalomaniacs with no long-term vision (or no vision beyond their term yet seek only to extend their term or get elected)... but remember to vote! (yet, according to the old adage, a nation always chooses the leader that they deserve )
Loki Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 So true . So sad. Rob , never having experienced your culture or country, can any paralells be drawn to the above senarios.
Colt45 Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 » created by democracy Bullshit. Socialism - slowly, surely, working it's foul way into the fabric of society world wide.
zuma Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 » Bullshit. » » Socialism - slowly, surely, working it's foul way into the fabric of » society world wide. Yeah... we must blame those socialist bastards that keep suing for for inane things and stupidities that they could have averted or the socialist parents that cannot fathom the possibility that they are responsible for their children... Oh, and those pinkos that run insurance companies that put all those clauses that invalidate insurance coverage whenever negligence could be involved... See how the above school policies are prevalent in places like Cuba and China... they must be brainwashing our societies with their cigars and cheap manufactured goods... pre-emptive action must be taken to fix'em ;-)
El Presidente Posted November 22, 2007 Author Posted November 22, 2007 » So true . So sad. » » Rob , never having experienced your culture or country, can any paralells » be drawn to the above senarios. Absolutely. As of yet we do not push the envelope of litigious culture that the US has. Suing for anything has actually been in remission here as judges are accepting more and more the role of "personal responsibility". A few years ago however it was looking pretty ugly. I don't know. I tend to feel this nanny state crap is our fault. People as a rule appear to be so wrapped up on what they have in their Plasma's, two cars, nice house, cable, new mobile/cell phones/ wireless broadband etc...that they have failed to see what has and is being taken away. I hate to think that they do know and just don't care but I suspect it is the case. We have an election this weekend. It is compulsory to vote here for everyone over the age of 18. People who don't care and who do not follow politics vote ( you get fined if you don't) and their vote counts just as much as people who are passionate about the issues at hand. Great system?....no. At the same time I don't want a system where you need to be a Millionaire to run and a couple of hundred million dollars raised from industry and special interest groups to succeed. In this country we do see the Unions pump 100 million dollars into the current election. That is their right to do so. Maybe we are not too far different. The "Left" here have taken over many institutions including the media (particularly electronic), teaching and health. I have many Left leaning friends and I respect their passion and social heart. I am more centre right and if I were to label myself I would label myself a "Conservative Lefty". The average Aussie is conservative by nature. Should the Federal Election be won this weekend the Labor Party it will be won by running a conservative platform to gain enough conservative swinging voters which hold the middle ground. You can't win in this country without taking that vote or a good percentage of it. The hilarity of the situation is that the Labor party is the harbour for some of the most Left wing extreemists. They don't parade the extreemists during election campaigns. People have long talked about a conservative backlash against the Left's influence which have been instrumental in bringing us to many of the ridicuous situations as shown on the initial post. Yet, the system protects them. They are very difficult to attack because in the main they are not elected. They are on secretive commitees and lobby groups who work very effectively behind the scenes to engineer a world where protection of the inept and removal of personal responsibiity becomes the mantra. It is never anyone's fault except for those who they demonise as exploiters. Two years ago I went to my son and daughters "Christmas Carols" concert at school. 6 Pm on a Tuesday night. I listened through three hours of ABBA and Rock songs. I made my way across to Principal Fred who I know reasonably well and asked him why did he advertise a "Christmas Carols" concert when there were in effect none. He told me (genuinely) that the decision was made not to sing Christmas Carols because they did not want to upset non Christian parents. I told him that as a Christian I was offended. I told him that I was offended enough to contact the media and stale that **** school was Anti Christian and yet was prepared to use Christian advertising in a false and misleading way in an effort to slap the face of any Christians who attended. He stated that Christmas was no longer a Christian concept and that he would remove the term "carols" from future advertising. I asked if I could quote him to the media that "Christmas" was no longer a Christian term in the mind of the Fred and the Queensland Education department. True Christmas Carols were back on the agenda last year. I hope they are there again on December 4 when I will attend again.
Ginseng Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 * sigh * I remember when we could wave sparklers around and light off cherry bombs and feel like a real kid. Life really has gotten more complicated. Wilkey

It's exactly the socialist attitude wherein people to not take responsibility for their actions. And don't worry about voting - in a socialist state you won't have the opportunity.
shrink Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 » Habanos 1957 vs. 2007 » » » Scenario: Johnny likes cigars, so he tries to import some illegal Cuban Habanos into the United States. 1957 - Johnny's friend is stopped in Customs. The cigars are confiscated, and Johnny's friend is allowed to go home. Customs agents enjoy the cigars at their annual office party. 2007 - Johnny's cigars are seized as they pass through Customs. Johnny gets two letters. The first advises him that contraband has been seized, and that it is a violation of Federal "Trade with the Enemy Act". He may be subject to huge fines, arrest and imprisonment. The second letter enumerates ALL the Cuban cigars he has purchased illegally over the past five years, listing their retail prices. Johnny is ordered to pay $100 per box, for 43 boxes, a total of $4300. Johnny hires an attorney, who advises him to plead the Fifth Amendment. It costs him $10,000 in legal fees. Johnny is placed on a blacklist of Homeland Security risks, and all his subsequent overseas purchases and travel is subject to surveillance and interdiction. He lives in fear.

And if democrat (clinton) is elected the la la land is only beginning!
ARRV Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Life is generally easier at the moment so people have spare time to worry about things - and worry and worry and then they want to change things. The mantra being change is good, change is progress - all so people can justify their own existence - make themselves feel important. Damn oxygen thieves. What's the alternative though, not many other places to go other than western society.
Loki Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Rob Thank you for the in-depth info on the Ausie State. I think that fining non-voters is a good idea and should be instituted in the USA , not that most Americans even know who their elected officials are let alone the issues at hand. A school in the US removed "HO HO HO" from its school Chistmas pagent because it was offensive to women. We recently had a local election. I have always voted and never miss the opportunity to do so. This year I decided to wear my " I LOVE MIDGET PORN " shirt to my local poling place. The looks that I got from the people and the polsters was priceless. I do so enjoy pushing the limits of what is socially acceptable. John

winelover Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 The UK is PC nuts like everywhere else. I think Christmas trees have been banned from some shopping malls for "offending non-Muslims", even though Muslim community leaders have gone on record not minding at all. Where I used to work our Christmas cards for clients were the most pathetic I have ever seen, in case they "upset" anyone. It seems that the PC bridage perceive all minorities to be paranoid and scared of mainstream culture and thus need protecting. I wonder whether many of the Thought Police have actually had a meaningful conversation with someone who doesn't actually come from the same background as them. If they did, or if they travelled abroad or experienced different cultures, they may actually learn that people from other cultues aren't as different or as fragile as they think and don't need extra special "kid-gloves" treatment. I also really don't like how many so called liberals espouse the views of the Thought Police. Real liberalism is about freedom, not repression, not facism. Yet they think to acheive this is to have a perfect PC world, where everyone is pre-programmed to be "good citizens" and probably incapable of any imagination. I say let's all have an understanding about our differences, and celebrate them, but let's not draw up these illusory barriers that prevent us from expressing our identities. Votes for Graham!!!!!
Thomas Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Kill your television,,,,stop spreading the in house drive by
Guest Warren Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Ah the fifties , every parent had a cat o nine tails in the draw and weren't afraid to use it and Leave it to Beaver was on the TV. Now we can't keep our kids out of prison and we dare not talk about Beaver in mixed company. And to top it off we now have a little boy running the country. Who the hell ever heard of a Prime minister called Kevin. Our national dish is about to become ear wax on toast. Side dish of boogers any one.
