I had, but forget the codes. Definately '06, but I'm not sure of the date.

After being chastised for unintentionally belittling the power of the Siglo I, I decided to fire up my last remaining sample.

As I had put this on a list of cigars to try with morning coffee, I ignited before 10:00 am, and had it with some iced coffee.

Construction: foot looked a bit odd - "normally" bunched on one side, tightly packed on the other.

Firm with nice weight. removing the cap revealed a nice divot, and pre-light draw was perfect.

Wrapper: very nice medium colorado. Smooth, with just a hint of sheen.

Draw: as pre-light pointed to, perfect. Clouds of smoke. Burn early was a bit uneven.

Taste: first draws were deeply nutty. Quickly settles into a medium / medium - full body, toasted tobacco and walnut profile.

Nearly an inch in, there are hints of stewed fruit and light butter - these flavors are fleeting.

A bit farther along, it picks up some Cohiba grassiness, and a sensation I can only describe as the light

astringency and zest of vodka mixed with a little cranberry juice. Nearing midpoint, there is a bit of an

herbal quality on the tongue which at this point, is not unpleasant.

Burn is still uneven - burning faster on the more loosely packed side, more slowly on the more densely packed.

There is no way around having to touch this one up.

At midpoint, everything smooths back out, and a light hint of milk chocolate is revealed. Throughout, there has

been no spice character to speak of. The finish has been short and somewhat arid. Amazingly, such a small cigar is

aromatically quite bold.

With a third to go, it starts to become more herbal again, and that's how this one finished. Overall, medium / full in body,

but not what I'd consider overly strong. Mainly smooth, but still showing it's youth and in need of time

to fully integrate and smooth out the edges. At this time, 87.

Good job Grasshopper I love the little Siglo because it satisfies so well for a short smoke. Med/full but not strong is a good description.

Nice one Colt.

I had a Siglo 1 (late 06) on Tuesday afternoon and it was sensational...Rich, decadent and a solid 92. The problem I have is that others are good but nowhere near as rich in flavour and score in the 87/88 range.

They need to get this right.

Nice review Colt45, thanks for that :-)

Looks to me like the Siglo I may still be a little rich for me for a morning smoke, but promising for an afternoon wakeup call ;-)

I'd agree, especially if you're talking early in the morning.

Indeed, many are fantastic, but in each box are a few duds that fail to live up to expectations :-(

I'm thinking about purchasing a box of Siglo I under the current sale...any other input before I pull the trigger?

Not to steer you away from the Siglo I by any means - have you tried many of the other perlas / minutos?

Maybe a good sized sampler including some SigI would help you decide on whether to go for a box?
