tandblov Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 An EXCELLENT review Rob, and great pictures. I really enjoy that component of your reviews. This may be a small cigar, but you are right, they are definately not small of flavor. I prefer them to the recent BPC"s I have had. They are a very enjoyable smoke. Thanks!
smokum Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Great review. This is one cigar that asks you before you light it..."Do you feel lucky punk ?" Powerful little mother.
1f1fan Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Great review Rob...one of my favorite short smokes.
bobsled Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Great review Rob. Sounds like these are right up my alley! :-D
Professor Twain Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 » We fired up the Boli's with our torch table lighter and they both came to » life like hooker at a psychiatrists conference (thats for you Shrink and » PT :-D ). Rob, I guess that Shrink told you about our time with the Ladies of the Evening after our sit down in San Francisco. I hope he is not going to post pictures. I love these cigars. They have become one of my favorite Bolivars. No foreplay involved, no long wait for the happy ending. Just a bang up, wham bam, thank you ma'am, cigar that reaches a satisfying climax without tiring you out. Brief enough that it leaves a chance for a second round of a different kind of pleasure, maybe a long legged RA Belicoso.
Tampa1257 Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 What a gem that many fortunately have over looked, perhaps until now :-( . A couple of weeks ago, I needed to take about a 45 minute drive and had a cigar buddy tagging along so I picked out a couple of BCJ's for the ride. Bold, Bossy, Bolivar, your review is right on! I loved mine yet I did see a touch of green gills on my buddy as he wasn't prepared for the true essence of what a Bolivar with a Short Man's complex was all about! Damn you just got to love the BCJ's! Thanks for the review!
jwm8592 Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 As always thanks for thr review. I'm a little mixed on the really strong cubans, that make my chair spin when I'm sitting in a stationary chair. As I'm still sort of a new cuban smoker, I have yet to smoke one that really sent me packing. For instance a NC Camacho 8/11, IMO is a very strong cigar.
stever Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Spot on review. One of my favorite short smokes. Never ceases to pleasantly surprise those who have never had one. Reminds me that my stock is running low. Hmmmm, Lisa?
PartagasIV Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Glad to see these are still so good. This was my second box purchase ever, in Schipol airport, 3 years ago..jesus how far I've gone downhill since

broozer Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 i've only had a few of these, but they were from '97 and they were FANTASTIC! bruce

BTW, you forgot the Gerbils... I love a Boli CJ when I'm tied up.

All I could think was how good a double spresso would go with. I remembered a conversation ealier in the day with another "friend of habanos" who told me of this forum, I signed on and this was the first thread I read. this is great! is 9 AM to early to smoke? Smooth Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 » » » » is 9 AM to early to smoke? HA:-D » » » it's never too early to smoke. :-D » » bruce Amen. Prez, I have a box with the same code and they are wonderfull already. Perfect for when you need a quick kick in the ass kind of smoke. Some have a few rough edges, but seem to be slowly evening out.
ksblazer Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Another very nice review El Presidente. I don't think I could decribe them any better than that. The 06 crop of BCJ's are excellent IMO. I like them better than the 03's and they got a lot of good reviews in the past. If you like BCJ's you gotta try the 06's;-)
Tom Bolivar Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 » it's never too early to smoke. :-D Never too early but sometimes too late. :-P Great review and great office table, Prez! ;-) I love the BCJs too. Sad they are not sold openly in Switzerland. For wathever reason this might be...
El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 One of my favourite clients popped in today. His name is Lial and he is so eccentic that he makes Ken look normal. Lial selected two Bolivar Corona Juniors, headed up to my office and knocked on the door. Before i could say "come in" he was at my desk and looking for an ashtray, cutter and lighter. Using my exemplary customer service skills I immediately found one of each as well as a nice bottle of Turkey Flat Shiraz and two wine glasses ;-) It is hard to review a Bolivar Corna Junior because lighting one is akin to lighting a fuse on a 35 minute bomb. I can say that we both clipped the cap and found a great draw. The smell at cold was all old leather and tobacco. Taste on the lips pre light was Vuelta Abajo tobacco and wet soil. We fired up the Boli's with our torch table lighter and they both came to life like hooker at a psychiatrists conference (thats for you Shrink and PT :-D ). Billowing levels of dank smoke. Full body on the palate in a "bugger off" style that draws the line in the sand and states that only real men are welcome (I almost put mine down). HUGE white pepper hit through the nose to the point that such dextrous manouvers had to be conservatively measured. The little BCJ had small mans syndrome and was focused on being aggressive from the get go. Dark charred barrels, black pepper and burn't coffee beans on the palate. Full bodied as full bodied can be. This was the ugly mexican bad guy in the Clint Eastwood movies of old...ornery, mean, bitter and yet complex. The Bolivar Corona Junior played a big game but it could not hide that below its bluff and bravado it was a bloody good and complex cigar. Dark slightly burn't coffee, leather, wet earth, chewy wood all melded together to form an experience that we ejoyed immensely. Lial is a senior member of the San Antonio Alamo society and being medically trained he talked me through the triage techniques utilised at the time. Trying to stay awake (I know you are reading this Lial ;-) ) I asked him to continue and expand hoping upon hope that he would run out of the intricate miniscule battlefield details. Forlorn hope Im afraid.....the discussion was similar to 22 season episodes of ER. Thankfully the Bolivar Corona Junior was good enough to divert our attention. At one point Lial said " this really is a very good cigar" and that was all I needed to jump from the stone walls and canon fire of the Alamo to the theory of blending, Wrapper, Ligero, Seco and Volado. The Bolivar Corona Junior remained full bodied until the end. Its calling card is power wrapped in burn't coffee, wet earth, old leather and a touch of cream. There are few better half Corona's (Trini Reyes shapes up well) and I will always keep a box of these in my rotation. 90/100 5/6 smokerings.
