Great review, an I concur. I have a box of 2005s that I LOVE, more than my 2002's (I know the blasphemy...) More cajones, depth of flavor. Intoxicating, much as you described.

Great review!! I really enjoy the taste profile of the San Cristobals. I find them a great morning/afternoon cigar.

Rob, this great review prompted me to grab the last La Punta from the top row in my box from '03. What a fantastic cigar! My experiences mirror yours so close it's scary. The burnt coffee and sweet core of this cigar are its DNA as I have always had this experience with the La Punta.

Perfect draw. Perfect burn. Boy these sure make for a great Friday afternnon treat. I paired mine with a Dark n Stormy..Bermuda's "Official Cocktail"...Goslings Black Seal Rum and Barritt's Ginger Beer. The peppery Goslings pairs excellent with the sweetness of the La Punta. As I type this Im on my last 3rd of the cigar and dont want it to end. Thankfully, I still have some more stashed away.

I think this is a "sleeper" cigar..one which should not be overlooked!

You've certainly got to try these. I hadn't until about a year ago. Rob had some aged stock (01's) that he sold a singles...the few that I had were great. Had that strong coffee flavor with an almost syrupy undertone throughout. Of course, draw/construction were tops.

The '05's I had were really strong MoFo's. Very spicy.

The '06's I sampled weren't even close.

Thanx for the revu.

If your son showed this much mood variabiity you would

» clip him her the ear and tell him to "get his act together".

Classic! LOL!!

Once again a tantalizing review Prez., on a cigar (as Colt said) that I also have never tried and will add it to the legal pad sheet hanging on my office wall above my computer.

Thanks for the review. These have been on my list for a while. They may have just moved up a few slots...

San Cristobal La Punta May 05

Consistently one of my favourite Belicosos. Frustratingly this Belicoso appears to swing between being a meaty mid body cigar and a "Punta Light" light bodied cigar. If your son showed this much mood variabiity you would clip him her the ear and tell him to "get his act together".

Lovely San Cristobal wrapper. Reddy brown. Well constructed, good weight in hand with an aroma at cold which I could only describe as honey, beeswax.....bready.

Clipped the cap and tested the draw. Perfect resistance. Neutral flavour on the lips. Touch of tobacco....maybe some clove.

Fired up the foot...Eureka! Medium full in body! This is the way I like my La Punta....a touch of soul. The light bodied examples are akin to making Love to your sister....not quite satisfying (I watched Dr Phil with Lisa on Wednesday ;-) )

No half hearted effort here though. Viscous cigar, chewy with a serious nougat, charred cherry and roasted candy nuts. Has a nice soul of Turkish Coffee which the sweeter elements appear to revolve around.

I got lost in this cigar (forgot to take a photo or two). I paired it with a nice bottle of Melton Shiraz which itself was jammy. I planned on doing a little bit of work while I smoked the La Punta but instead I rocked back in the chair and got lost in the volumes of white smoke, the distinct floral/molasses aroma and the distinct sweet notes in the blend which worked seamlessly with the charred/burn't coffee core.

Sometimes a cigar deserves your attention and opporunity to envelope you with its charms.

Past the halfway point and the charred coffee core is coming to the fore. Touch of well worked leather. Distinct cherry notes reminiscent of a great R&J but different through the addition of beesway/honeycomb.

For the Aussies out there this is the cigar version of a Violet Crumble (honeycomb based chocolate bar).

Not really wanting this to end but it does and does so with a minimum of fuss. Great to the very end. Almost full bodied in the final third, more leather, charred wood but the sweet spices of life linger to the very end.

90/100 5/6 smokerings.
