Justinwzp Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 I'm new to the forum......HELLO all! I've grown out of my three big desktop humidors so I have a new GIANT cabinet on the way from Staebell. I want to get a few more boxes on the way to enjoy around Christmas. Can someone suggest a few good smokes that will be ready to go in the short term (6mo-1yr)? I'll probably stock up on some more 06 EL's because I have the extra room now but I really want to put something in the new humidor that I can enjoy with friends/clients/family in the coming months. I was considering a box of PSD4's, CoRos and a box of BRC's but I thought I'd ask the more experienced before I start spending money. Thanks in advance!!! It's my first post but I have to say that I have fully enjoyed searching around the forum so far......great information.

I think the perfect cigar for this situation is a nice box of Partagas 898 Varnished. With a good 6-12 mo. on top of the (hopefully) 6-12 mo. from the box date, you should have some fantastic cigars. These really take off after a couple years of total age.
smokum Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Which box did you order from Aristocrat ? Whatever it was...get a bigger one !
Tampa1257 Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 » Which box did you order from Aristocrat ? Whatever it was...get a bigger » one ! You took the words right out of my mouth! I would suggest the following items to be enjoyed 6-8 months from now with friends and family: Montecristo: No.1, No.3, No.5 (2 boxes), No.2 Partages: Serie P No2, PSD4, PSdC No.1,No.2, No.3's, 8-9-8 Vegas Robaina; Famosos, Unicos Bolivar: PC, RC, BCJ (2 boxes) SCDH: El Principe (2 boxes), La Punta That will give you a nice smoking collection with variety and flavor ! This is my Aristocrat Plus 48 THC: This was what I started with when the cabinet arrived, it has about 25 more boxes now, I've got the bottom shelf rented out! LOL The Moral to this story goes back to a little formula. But when considering buying a Cabinet Humidor, BUY BIGGER than you EVER thought you would need, then buy one even bigger. If you smoke 1-2 cigars a day and a few more on weekends, and you want to smoke aged 5-8 years cigars, then you need a humidor that will hold 100-125 boxes of cigars. Then make a habit to always buy 2 boxes of every cigar and buy the replacement when the first box is half way finished. If you smoke 1 cigar a day and want variety, then you need 31 boxes of different cigars, times 3 each equals to smoke 1 box while aging 2. Now Rob will be glad to help you fill your new delightful Aristocrat, and Bob will help you when you call him to double the size Cabinet you thought you needed! Go BIG, BIG, BIG........... you are going to need it...................
Justinwzp Posted July 25, 2007 Author Posted July 25, 2007 » Which box did you order from Aristocrat ? Whatever it was...get a bigger » one ! I got one of the Majestic Armoires. I'm hoping this thing will be big enough to hold me over for a few years. I should be able to stuff a couple thousand cigars into that badboy. If I end up having to go bigger than that, my gril is going to snap my neck anyway....haha [link]http://www.aristocrathumidors.com/majestic-24.html[/link]
havanaclub7 Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Justin, Welcome to the board. I've had some Bolivar Coronas Gigantes that were wonderful now and could use a little bit of aging. The same for the Hoyo de Monterrey Double Coronas and the Vegas Robania Don Alejandro. All are smoking reasonably well now but will also benefit from a little bit of time. Enjoy the forums!
smokum Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Thats a good sized humi !!! I doubled my cpacity....sadly...I should have tripled it to the 100 box level.
wp2 Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Hello & welcome to FOH. I too, did not heed Tampa's advice; filled up my Mini, got a wine coolerdor full, still buying. Now looking at a mini fridge (modified, of course) as more storage.
Taino Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 depends on what you enjoy really, but I would add a piramide like PSP2, and something smaller like monte 5, Party shorts or trini reyes. Enjoy!
lbrooks Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 Great looking Humidor! I've been dying to upgrade for months looks like I might have to jump in. LB

If you want smokes that are ready to smoke by Christmas, I would recommend buying a few boxes of "aged" cigars, ie older than the regular production that is being knocked out at 6 - 12 months of age. Typically, H.Upmann Sir Winstons are still from 2003 at most vendors, and are a fantastic cigar, considered to be the best Churchill by most smokers. I got a box from Czar not long ago, 2003, fantastic aroma, for very reasonable money (around 330 IIRC). Also check the "aged" cigar list they have here somewhere and ask for advice. Regarding 2006 production BRCs et al, I have plenty of them and have smoked a few boxes. As shrink says, these are fantastic smokes, and can be smoked already. I do find that they have a rough edge though, and I'm sure they'll improve over time. Whether you will like them, I cannot know, but if you buy some and dont like them yet, you can always keep them and age them yourself, they'll only get better. Many 2006 robustos are very nice, mainly the BRCs, RASS and also D4 and, if you like a lighter cigar, the Hoyos.

Would you expect that they will take more time to be in prime smoking condition or are they ready in the short term?

Would you expect that they » will take more time to be in prime smoking condition or are they ready in » the short term? Not sure, I have only smoked 2 boxes of Cohiba Robusto 2006. One was great and the other bad (bitter). Not sure if there was a storage problem involved (before the box reached me) but that's what I suspect. The box with the bitter Coros was from Madrid and the Spaniards are known for their approximate storage... If you look at the [link=http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/board_entry.php?id=54023#p54054]summary of good 2006 production that shrink posted[/link] you will see that he likes early 2006 CoRos. And he most definitely knows what he's talking about. :-) You wont get me to say that a 1 year old cigar is "ready" to smoke, but you can already smoke and enjoy it. (I'm a little anal about calling 1 or 2 year old cigars "ready". Just like I wont call 2003 production Bordeaux "ready" although I drink a bottle once in a while and enjoy it. I guess to me, "ready" means "has reached its peak" as far as cigars and wines are concerned).
