2006 Montecristo Robusto EL

Recommended Posts

Well I decided to break open the box and try one to see if they have some decent flavor.

It was a very Dominican tasteing ,barely no flavor, piece of $h-t of an EL.

I really hope these have a sick period, cause if this is how the entire box is, then I might quit buyin the ELs.

Anyone else run into this???

Sure have, have smoked a couple and they were like smoking the box they came in.

I found the 2001 (or was it 2000?) to be the same, as bland and unexciting as seeing your mum at a strip club.

In my limited experience the Monte El's have all been unexciting. With the exception of the Monte El DC. I personally only buy Partagas El and Cohiba EL. The cohiba EL DC is probably in my top three all time favorite cigars. The Sublime is one of those three as well.

I have found these and the Monte "C" to be one of the best cigars I have had for quite some time. I've never been disappointed with a Monte apart from the occasional plugged Monte 4. I do hope they Robustos get better for you. ;-)

Don't throw the box out

It is not a disasterous EL. I have had some crackers and also a few that were as you described. Give them 12 months more and you will see a huge change...trust me.

There have been some dud El's but this is not one of them. How many are finding that the much maligned Monte C EL is now coming into its own? Rmember what a bagging the Cohiba Sublimes got when they first came out....now one of the most sought after cigars in the world.

Patience grasshopper ;-)

I smoked one this weekend, and it was one of the strongest, most intensely flavored cigars I've ever had. Too much pepper, too many tannins, and too many competing flavors. At times, the underlying bittersweet Monte profile shone through, only to be lost in waves of peppery spice. I finished it, but it was an exercise in determination.

In five years, or more, this could very well turn out to be an enormous smoke. But nowhere near ready to enjoy.

surely no one. the monte C remains something with less flavour than something scraped off the dog's feet after playing in mud. total waste of time. appalling. it is the sauv blanc of cigars. a toxic weed that aspires to be compost.

on the other hand, there were the sage amongst us who loved the sublimes from day one. what wise folk we were. happy to swap 24 C's (one from a box and a heap of singles from several sources as i thought that they cannot all be this bad) for a box of subs. gnerous to a fault, as always.
