Deliberately writing Lonsdale as I mean both Cervantes and Corona Grandes.

For some reason I've grown a fondness for these sizes...lately but I've only tried a few of'em.

These are the one I've tried lately...

And I've liked them all...although RG Lonsdale is best suited for early mornings :-)

Cabiner version Partagas Lonsdales work best for me. The dress box version tastes completely different. Those from 2002, the last year produced, are fantastic.

X2!

Followed closely by Siglo IIIs and Monte #1s.

My vote goes to the cabinet Partagas Lonsdales. Very good smokes, really in a class by themselves. I'll bring you one next time we meet, Christer!

The SLR Lonsdales in cabinets are also good. :-)

This is a great post. I was thinking along the same lines!!! One cigar i have really enjoyed is the Monte #1. When i first started enjoying cigars, this was a go to smoke. You never hear to much about them. I remember my thoughts being, suffer through the first third, then WOW monte cream in huge amounts!!! Howevr i cant seem to get that again. Anyone have this experience, as far as the cream bomb? I was thinking it was my youth with all cigars and my palate recognizing different qualities now that i have more to compare to.

I love the size in general, great feel, and a nice burn time. But i have learned not to rush it, i have destroyed the flavor in a few, just got to hot.

Current favorite is the siglo lll

Would love to come across the monte cream again, still searching.

Easily my favorite format, the Lonsdale/Cervantes. This is today's list. Changes all the time with the direction of the wind.

VR Classicos

RG Lonsdale

#2 Tie

SLR Lonsdale

SP Molinos

Bolivar Lonsdale

Too many honorable mentions to, um, mention.

Although there is great variability, based on year, I would rank the lonsdales generally in the following order. Although it was not intentional, I see that my ranking roughly follows the strength and body of the vitola, from strongest to mildest.

Partagas lonsdales: easily my overall favorite, Bass man is right, the best are from either pre-2000 or from 2002. Sweet, rich and true to the Partagas profile.

Bolivar Gold Medals: The Wolters release are strong and packed with earth, spice and peppery goodness.

Diplomaticos No. 1: Rich, with lots of sweet "paprika" spice, cocoa and hints of orange peel. I love 'em.

Montecristo No. 1: I would rate this one more highly, if it weren't so damned unpredictable. At their best, they are loaded with bittersweet cocoa and cream.

Bolivar lonsdales: Milder than the typical Bolivar, they deliver more than their share of flavor and sophistication. A true classic.

Rafael Gonzales lonsdales: What a complex, elegant cigar! It combines floral aromas, mild spices and a slightly sweet, tangy finish with remarkable balance.

Vegas Robaina Clasicos: With age, these are as smooth as silk, with toasty tobacco, hints of caramel, and a light, cinnamony-habanero finish. IMO, the ideal Sunday morning smoke.

San Luis Rey lonsdales: A mild to medium-bodied toasty cigar, that reminds me why I love the SLR Double Corona.

i would say **** is more appropriate :-P

If Mario would have been able to choose the BGM I'm sure that he would have put that on the top of his list. As would I...

I would go

1) Wolters BGM

2) RA 898

3) RG Lonsdale

4) Partagas Lons Cab

Had a chance to try a Partagas 150 (hab) lonsdale last weekend, gifted to be by a very generous BOTL. Quite an interesting cigar...can't remember EVER smoking a cigar that had so many flavor changes. The 2nd third was the strongest part of the cigar.
