Reviving the palate...

Recommended Posts

This is not going to be easy but you need a 3 week cigar sabatical. No cigars for that period....none....nada....zip.

None, nada, zip? Prez, have you ever voluntarily given up cigars for three weeks? Not because you were sick, or were stranded on an island, or under quarantine by your wife for reasons which we can appreciate, etc.

No, I mean abstaining for no other reason than "to clear your palate". Now, keep in mind that most of the 'flavors' in a cigar are actually perceived and discriminated in the nose, not the mouth. Perhaps he should have his sinuses washed out...

I use that Sinus Rinse stuff periodically... not sure how much it helps. I'll do that just in case.

Abstaining for a couple of days helps.

Two weeks kind of hurts!! But I will try for as long as I can. Now just to find something that can keep my mind off of tobacco for a couple of weeks! :-D

I rinse with the olive oil rubbing my tongue to the roof of my mouth .

As far as the Apple cider 3 table spoons to 8 oz water drink it but let it stay in your mouth for lets say 5 sec before swallowing it.

Has to be Apple Cider vinegar it's very good for you also I think it kill the germs on your tongue.

But these work for me with in about a 15 min to 1/2 hour.

The Apple Cider works much better for me.

» Hey guys,

»

» I have been having some taste problems lately. Can't taste those

» delightful intricacies in my cigars. Any ideas on how to wake my taste

» back up? This is driving me NUTS!!

Aside from abstaining from smoking...which I must admit is very hard to do....try eating something along with your cigar. Ive recently been enjoying spicy pita chips and humus. Sounds weird, but it can sure enhance the flavors -- and a little rum dont hurt;-)

I have find that I taste best when all I do is smoke a cigar.... nothing to drink, nothing to eat.. accept when my mouth gets OVERLY dry; then a sip or two of water. :-(

No, no, no. He said THREE weeks. Good luck! ;-)

Really, though, not smoking is the best way to get it back.

I just got over a two week head/chest cold and could not taste much of anything so I did without for three days. I smoked some NC culls when I did smoke not wanting to waste the good stuff. I'm back and have been tasting well for a few days now.

Robs advice may work but three weeks is a long time for me the go without. I'd rather give up sex for two weeks before sacrificing cigars for three days.;-)

This is my personal choice when a cigar is just tasting like a cigar...

Chilled Vodka.

Drink one finger about 30 mins before lighting up the cigar and hold each sip in the mouth for a sec. Followed with room temp water about 5 mins before lighting.

Works every time... Or should I be registering with my local AA meeting?? :-D

Here's one guaranteed to work. Go out one night (make sure you have a trusted friend that'll drive you home) smoke a ton of cigars and drink shot after shot of tequila. The goal of this is to wake up with a raging hangover so if you don't wake up with one, you've failed. Now what does this accomplish? Plenty. Its called negative association. You'll wake up with the worst hangover that you'll completely swear off all smoking and drinking (if not banned from it by your better half)...for at least 48 hours, maybe more. By the time the after-affects of the that drunken night wears off (and the displeasure of your significant other), your palate will have healed itself and you will once again be able to taste the difference between a Cohiba and a Quintero. Trust me on this...its been tested and I know it works.

i would be straight in to see a specialist. know a few people in the wine industry who have suddenly lost smell (more likely to be this than taste) and never got it back.

» good question. i would imagine an ENT specialist but if it is a problem,

» check with your local doc and see what he says or if he refers you.

Nice one Ken.

Now Steve thinks he has a physiological problem requiring specialist attention :-|

Ignore him Steve. If Ken has a headache it is a tumour. If his hips are sore it is bone cancer. Classic hypochondriac ;-)
