Well Armed Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 The ones I have had were '05. They all sucked balls. Anyone had anything real recent? Have they gotten their act together?

I had an early 06 that was poor. They lack flavour. I will try and review one before Tuesday next week. I struggle to get up for this cigar. Reyes, Coloniales, fundadores leave the Robusto Extra for dead at least in my experience.

I wasnt planning on touching them for quite a while. This post will help curb any future temptations.
BigSlick Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 The first one I had was fantastic! It was a single so I have no idea the age or box code. Been chasing the dragon ever since and the bastard keeps getting further and further away. May fire one up this weekend on the golf course and see how they are fairing.

Lacking any flavor and absolutely no complexity. Trinidads are so much better with a thinner ring gauge, brings out the real true essence of the blend and characteristic of the marque.
Gryphon Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 I have a bunch of singles from around the same time. Of which I have smoked two. Both very disappointing.

Well I'm not sure I'd agree completely with your last sentence. The earlier RE's I've sampled have all been fantastic smokes. So much so, I started smoking them almost exclusively since they were constructed so well and the flavors/complexity were spot on. I can't speak for any '06 or '07 production but maybe these have slipped a bit in quality/blending from the factory.

I have been disappointed with 05/06. What year/codes are you smoking as I would love to track some down. I hate dissing on a cigar and if I smoke a good/great one I will give due credit.
BigSlick Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Smoked one today on the golf course. Box code IKR SEP05. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they have turned a corner. No longer muted, tastes were sweet cream with strong vanilla bean and slight leather undertone through the first 2/3. Core tobacco and baking chocolate thereafter. Not real complex, but very enjoyable. Still have 6 left to age and have put this cigar back on the "need to stock" list.

Don't have the boxcodes but these were all '04's shortly after they were released. I've long smoked thru all of them but these definitely were some of the better cigars I've smoked. I do have a cardboard pack of '05's so I'll have to do a comparison sometime. You could be right about these going backward.
motownflip Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 I have some left from 05 and agree that they were unimpressive. I have about 5 left that I plan on letting sit for some time. I hope they did turn the corner.
rafa Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Trinidad Reyes SBN 12 - code STL ABR 06. Poor flavor, bored

The 05 Trini aren't the firecrackers that the earlier (04) units were, but tasty nonetheless. I have not smoked any later 05 or 06 issues. Wilkey
