Colt45
Some out loud thoughts of cigars smoked this past week - '00 H. Upmann Sir Winston: Core of tight clean tobacco. Notes of coffee, bordering on cooking chocolate. This one had an overlay of citrus (think ripe tangerine) - unexpected, but quite enjoyable. This one had a fine draw, was medium in body. Wonderful. '05 SLR DC: Starting to come around for me. Full bodied powerhouse. Smooth and buttery earthy tobacco - not much in the way of ancillary flavors yet, but most definately still developing. I will say that as I've been smoking smaller cigars over the past months, that when I grabbed this from the humidor, it was slightly intimidating..... RyJ Churchill A/T: I believe it to be '05, but I'm not 100% sure. Core of dry cedar, with an overlay of medium fruits - a distinct, though not overwhelming cherry tinge. Medium body, with not much spice. A very nice cigar, though a bit drier than I tend to like - though not as dry or tannic as I find the HdM Churchill. A nice change of pace. Out of format, but deserving recognition: '06 Partagas S du C No.3 - I am now a convert. Thanks to all who urged me not to give up on the S du C line-up, with special thanks to the Czar Crew who made sure I didn't ;-)
shrink
I appreciate the smoking notes, Colt. It just so happens that I have a few of these sleeping right now. I haven't tried any of the '05 SLR DC's since I got 'em. The samples I smoked showed a lot of promise. God, I hope they are in the class of the '01s I've had. I'm waiting at least another two years on these. Haven't sampled any of my '05 RyJ Julietas AT either. But the '06 Partagas SdC #3 are going to be mighty. The few I sampled had enormous strength and depth, as did the #1's. If there is anybody out there that loves this Series as much as I do, don't even hesitate on the early '06 issues. They are awesome. But not for smoking now... at least three years in the box.
Ken Gargett
colt, had an 04 SLR DC last night. terrific cigar. not the greatest SLR DC i have had but still top notch. will get to a review soon. and the partagas s du c 3 - much as i hate to ever praise his pompousness, rob put me on to these. i was reluctant but am now a zealot. love them. when we were last in cuba, there were quite a few aged boxes available - from 98 to 03 from memory. we stocked up and they were the house smoke. most of us went through a couple a day at least. first thing in the morning, last smoke at night. perfect. huge fan - just shows rob can get lucky occasionally. Colt45
Shrink, I wish I could comment on the '01 SLR DC, but alas..... As for the '06 P SdC, I agree with you - but they are hard to resist. Common sense would dictate I acquire many boxes :-( KG, I look forward to your '04 SLR DC review. And feel free to put aside a few of those aged P SdC 3s - seeing as how we're thick as thieves and all......
stever
Nice notes. The '00 Sir Winston sounds enticing. May cause me to break down and smoke the only '00 I have. Smoked an '05 SLR DC about 9 months ago. I'm liking the late '06s more at this point. May have to post a review soon.
El Presidente
Nice work Colt :-) Why can't all Winstons be like the '00 H. Upmann Sir Winston. Such a variable cigar.

My Sir Winnies are '03s and although I have tried 1 or 2 the rest will sleep. My 05 SLR DCs are great now and are going to be awesome in another 3 years. :-( My 99 RyJ Churchies are magnificent! What is left of them. Dont have any of the Partagas S du C #3s. :-( Hmmmm....
