Agree whole-heartedly Rob! Spot on review!! Once that slight-bitter finish goes away, imo this smoke is going to be a phenom!

Excellent review, and lovely pix, too. I am sorry to see that your dog has taken the once distinguished place that Smithy had by your side on the deck.

I agree with your conclusions about this cigar. It's good now, but too good to waste. I think that within five years, this will be a highly sought after vintage. Here's to hoping that investment pays off.

Still sitting there with a full tank of fuel, unlocked and with the keys in the ignition. Been there a week. This is the problem with Australia today....Young people have no drive

Excellent review as always sir. I can’t find these in the international shop; are they there?

I’m most impressed with the photos and excellent choice of breed!

I'd go along with the consensus, these are superb cigars. Almost as good as their big brother.

Ive only smoked a few of these, but they were all excellent. Cant wait to smoke another.

Romeo y Julieta Short Churchill POS DIC 06

I have liked the R&J SC since the launch. I have found the consistency in blend and construction to be almost flawless. The example chosen for this review came from an open box of 10.

Smell at cold is slightly sweet interspersed with quality tobacco. Construction is impeccable. Wrapper delectable.

Cerrated the end to find a perfect draw and that R&J charred cherry on the lips. Torched the foot. Medium bodied but with a chewy nougat mouthfeel which coates the palate. Dense feel to both the cigar and the smoke. Through the nose finds lashings of fine white pepper but on the tongue is nothing but sour cherry cheesecake. Burn't wine barrels in the background. Smoke is laboriously drifting away. Nice dense ash.

The cigar has not changed flavour nuances since the opening. Hints of citrus but mostly stewed berry fruits. Some mocha intersperses midsection. THis tastes very much like every other Short Shurchill I can recall. Blend consistency is a strong point with this line. Savoury notes of unsweetened beans now establishing themselves (coffee, vanilla).

image2945.jpg

Real hints of vanilla (sweet) into the back third. Still the sour cherry cheesecake core. Some elemental bitterness of youth dancing around the edges but disappear when you try to focus on them . Vanilla disappearing and back to core flavours.

The question is not if this cigar is good but simply how good will it become. I would love to have a 5 year old example to taste now. The R&J Short Churchill is a connundrum of a cigar. It is similar in profile to its Churchill big brother but it also has flavour elements of many of the recent Edicion Limitada's I have tried (particularly R&J Petit Pirimides). One to enjoy now or set down and try every 12 months. It should be a cracker.

89/100 4.5 smokerings.

Excellent review, and I particularly liked the photographic work showing the beginning of a light dusting of plume (or Blume) forming on the cigar. To me, that speaks volumes of proper storage prior to smoking a fine cigar.

I see your use of the English lexicon is coming along nicely.

Also I see in the background that no one has stolen the Land Rover yet, perhaps if you wiped the bird **** off the dashboard that might help?
