Partagas Serie P No.2

Recommended Posts

I acquired these, as singles, in August '05 - I don't know the exact codes.

Construction: Very good, no flaws. Showed a nice bunching at the foot. It did feel

ever so slighlty heavy, but this was a non-issue.

Wrapper: Deep chestnut with a tinge of red. Relatively smooth with a nice sheen.

Draw: Near perfect - barely on the loose side if I had to nitpick. Burn was acceptable

- it required a few minor touchups.

Taste: This one did not change much over the course of the smoke. Overall it was

white pepper and old leather, with a lightly buttery mouthfeel. Full in body, but

medium in strength. Dense. It still showed it's youth via periodic hints of sour

grassiness - but no harshness or bitterness.

A nice cigar--88

Thanks for the notes. IMO, the first issues in January and February, 2005 were the best. Early '06 aren't bad either. Like most Partagas, they smoke OK after six months, but will really need four to six years to shine.

I'll never forget 'em "fresh off the truck" back in '05. Those were some tasty rascals. Now, the remaining half-box or so are sleeping as they definitely dropped off in taste after a while...just like PSD4's do.

Nice review--thanks.

Always the quandry - it's a bit of a leap of faith to buy box(es) of a

cigar that you consider good, but not necessarily great, with the

hope that they'll turn into something outstanding.

For what it's worth, my favorite pyramide is the VR Unicos.

(haven't tried the '06 Cohiba EL yet :-) )

My experience with these have been fantastic. For me, they have started off more on the medium side without that earthy Partagas one two punch in your face. The flavors steadily build to a full bodied smoke after about 1/3 of the way down; dark chocolate, espresso and cedar. I really love these and will need to follow them over the next couple years and keep a selection of a few different years ;)

» - it required a few minor touchups.

I've found that this is not necessary. When you notice a runner to one side, maybe when it gets to half an inch and you think it needs correcting...just purge it for a few seconds, and let it recover, or purge it for a few seconds, then just resume smoking without letting it recover...you can find what works best for each individual experience. You can also put the runner side down. Needless to say I never have to use a lighter for an incorrect burn.

Most of the time you can correct things without a lighter, but if you've never had to use a lighter/match, I'm not sure you've smoked enough cigars ;)

All I'm saying is it is not necessary.
