» Bob, you will absolutely love the Aristocrat Plus 48 THC! What kind of wood

» did you go with?

Thanks Slick !I went pretty standard Chuck...it sits in an extra room so it doesn't have to be too fancy. I went with dark red mahogany on my wifes orders ! Glass/flat panel door...standard base and top with all drawers extendable...I was going to eliminate the singles drawer but lately I have been taking out my 2 weeks worth of smokes and placing them in the singles drawer so I dont have to pull all the boxes out to get at something !! I still may eliminate it since the extending drawers will make it easier to grab what I need. Any thoughts on the singles drawers ???? This little Viking served me well for quite a few years...it just got overwhelmed the past couple weeks.

PS..Chuck I sent you an e-mail asking about your aging program

Bob, Just my opinion, but I like the drawer. Once I have worked my way through the top layer in a box, I tend to want to have my box space available, so about the time I start working on the bottom layer of a box, I move them to the single drawer and open up room for an additional box.

I received your email, but decided to read the boards a bit before replying , you'll have it soon.

The method is no secret, it is just numbers:

When you want to start aging full boxes of cigars, first determine what you want. Then, when you order, you order 2 boxes. One box to smoke, and 1 to age, When you are about 1/2 through the 2nd layer of the smoking box and think you want more, then you order 2 more boxes, 1 to smoke, and 1 to age, so now you have 2 boxes aging. Now when you get to that point when you are about 1/2 way through the 2nd layer and want more, order 2 more boxes, 1 to smoke, and 1 to age. You now have 3 boxes of the same cigar aging. You do this with each type of cigar you want to age, you always buy 2 boxes at a time of the same cigar, always 1 to smoke and one to age that you do not touch. Some people are happy with 3 boxes aging, some want 4 boxes aging so they have 100 cigars in the aging process. Basically, by the time you have done this 3 to 4 times, your first aging box, not has about 3 years of age on it, when you get to the 2nd layer and want some more, order 2 more boxes, only this time, you place both those boxes into aging, and pull out a box that has already been in your humidor 3-5 years aging. Do this with all the cigars that you want to age. You will build inventory, so a large cabinet humidor is needed. Before you know it, you will only be smoking cigars that you have personally aged 3-5 years, and very soon, that will increase to thew point that you will be smoking cigars that you have personally aged 5-8 years . Think about always being able to smoke cigars that have been properly stored and aged that are perfect each and every time you pull one out to smoke. No more youthfull letdowns, always a deeply complex, richly flavored magical tasting perfect cigar. While some people enjoy smoking Havanas in their youth, I am of the mind that a well aged and properly stored cigar that has blended and matured correctly presents the maximum potential of what the Masterblender crafted when he created the cigar. Smoking young cigars for the most part is a waste of a fine cigar in my most humble opinion. Why do people smoke them young? It is simple, they do not have enough storage room to build the aging inventory needed nor the self discipline to not touch the aging cigars. The method that I am describing allows those to smoke what they like when they order it (thus satisfying the need to immediate gratification) and building aging inventory for the future.

Excellent...Thanks Tampa....I have heard folks talk about vacuum sealing their stocks. Is there any benefit ? Since I bought one of the silly things to freeze my tuna steaks I figured I may as well ask !!!!!

For short term aging, less than 25 years, vacuum sealing in my humble opinion is a total waste of time, effort nd energy. The vacuum sealing is to retard the Oxygen and thusly slow the long term aging down, thus since you will have an Aristocrat humidor soon, your storage conditions will be perfect for what you want, unless you plan on aging boxes of cigar for 25+ years, personally, I hope to still be here in 25 years, but I'll be damned if I am going to wait that long to smoke my cigars because I can smoke 5-10 year aged perfect cigars daily from now until I bite the big one.

It would be interesting to see if anyone here has actually done this. I don't know if I consider anything less than 25 yrs to be short term ageing but I can't really say. I think a cigars ageing potential varies considerably from one vitola to another, but I think 10 years is a time when most cigars mature and extra ageing adds very little to the taste beyond this. For some it might be longer, but at some point the cigar declines.

Have to call Bob in the morning. I may eliminate the 1/2 glass door. t Although I love looking at the box art...it will cause me to add another cooler due to R value loss between that and a solid door !! I plan on trying to use Tampa's method. I may have to modify it to my own timetables a bit. He was my first contact on this site and has always had good advice !! Peculiar looking sunglasses though !!!:-D

While I agree that the glass doors look nice, the important issue for me was maintaining a constant temp and humidity. Living in Florida where we usually always have very high humidity, and warm weather, the solid door made a lot more sense to me, besides, the humidor looks killer with the rasied panel door. Besides, I like not having every Tom, **** and Harry, knowing what my stash is before opening my humidor up. Keeps the contents sort of private, if you know what I mean.

HOUSTON....WE HAVE A PROBLEM !!!!! I asked my wife if she preferred the glass or solid door for my Plus 48...she looked around Aristocrats site !!! NOT GOOD...she saw the Majestic 24 ....and the Aristocrat M model which she REALLY likes !!! Now WE have to compare....I usually point and shoot while she has to make a logical decision....

Sometimes its not a bad idea to have the wife help with decisions...after all...this is actually FURNITURE right !I was going to order the Plus 48 but this is what she picked and I ordered . The wait is going to kill me. I went solid raised panel doors and inlaid top with edge detail and I had the loose storage modified to 1/2 the width of the box for more box storage...dark red mahogany.....Bob says it will hold 40-50 boxes but I am thinking at least 60-70 judging by what I measured...

Basically, it is the same interior size as the Plus 48, but not as deep. I think that if I was to ever order another one, I would get a double of the Plus 48, basically two wide of the humidor. I like it being about 26 inches deep. I think the one you are getting is only like 19 inches deep.

All in all, you are going to love it!

They do make this one taller too. .I can get 40 boxes in my endtable if I had to...this will be a huge upgrade .

Hey Smokum the new box sounds good. If I might make a suggestion, not only should you NOT drop the drawer I wholeheartedly recommend adding a second drawer. I love being able to move an entire box to a spot in the drawer when they become smokable, not to mention if you are like me, you have lots of loose cigars from various boxes. By putting them in the drawer they are in easy reach and lower shelves are freed up for full boxes.

Here is a pic of my drawer full of singles...

Thanks guys...it does have to fit a particular space. Also I kept 1/2 the loose storage space. I only use the loose with my NC singles. Once I get down to 1/2 box on anything else I will use the loose and add a fresh box.
