Mr. Japan Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 As promised I give you little report of smoking a Tacos Imperiale in Macerata (center of Italy on the Adriatic side). The “event” was dedicated to CCA (Italian Cigar Club Association, 27 clubs in all Italy) and France, as during the gala dinner we were gifted of the French Regional Editions (Bolivar Libertadores , a sublimes 54*164 and Juan Lopez Obus a campana 52*140). We started from my town 7 am in morning of Saturday,Three cars with 8 members of Hirpus AMICIGAR Club (plus wifes) and arrived in Macerata on time for a brief lunch before starting the tasting. International friends joined from Germany ,France, Switzerland and England. The collective smoking (50 people) of humidor n.63/200 of H.Upmann 160°, purchased in November in Cuba., is, I believe, the first of it’s kind in the world. Once all of us was sitting waiting to light up the cigar, we where served with some plain tea for cleaning the mouth from any residual of the lunch. The cigar was a nice gold Colorado, uniform slightly oily, well constructed and filled, easy to light up and first few puffs gave a light flavour of straw. ( if you have time download Cristhofers info on smoking a Cuban on AMICIGAR web gallery) The draw and combustion was regular and ash dark grey and compact. First third of the cigar was light sweet and grass taste, going on started to be a bit tannic but still grass taste with light wood. Spicy in the second third and final was leather and pepper. Not a strong cigar, I would say medium-light body, too fresh to smoke. Great sensation but nothing special to remember with very little aftertaste. The scale grade of CCA is 1 to 6, I gave 4, because I’m sure that in 3-6 years this will be a great smoke. But……not everybody had the same result of smoke as I had, there is been some of us that said the cigar was , specially from second third, strong and dry, with cocoa and pepper very strong. They felt the “mareo” typical Cuban saying when after a strong smoke you have little stomach pain and headache. Hey it’s Cuba, did you expect 50 cigars all the same? At end of the smoking we all cleaned our mouths with a glass of Champagne Legras and back hotel room to change to suit&ties for the Gala dinner. Colt45 Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Great! Thanks for the link to the pics as well.
Jack Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 A great story about this humidor is that a well-known vendor fudged the math when converting to US$ and priced this at US$1,500 instead of US$3,500. ...three of them made it to their new homes before he realized his mistake and cancelled the rest of the orders. You could almost read the physical pain he was going through in the email he sent appologizing for not being able to fill the order. I actually felt sorry for the guy.
