Trevor2118 Posted December 25, 2006 Posted December 25, 2006 Hi Fellow FOH members. I need to check something on my website, regarding the current construction of Jose L Piedra Cigars as a question has been raised... My information is that these cigars were originally machine-bunched hand-finished (reference Nee) but in early 2003 (when hand-finishing was discontinued) they became fully handmade utilising short-filler tobacco (reference Habanos SA publication April 2003). Could FOH members with boxes dated since 2003, please check and confirm that they are marked “Totalmente a mano” and “TC” .........or otherwise.... This is similar to the cedar-wrapped Flor de Cano Petit Coronas which has been confirmed as now "Totalmente a mano" and "TC". Many thanks, Trevor
Tampa1257 Posted December 25, 2006 Posted December 25, 2006 Trevor, I can understand the need to be correct with the information on your web site, but Who would admit to owning Jose Piedra cigars? Just my humble opinion, but Jose Piedra is like a half a step ahead of Guantanamera! Good luck!

Never seen boxed Jose L Piedra's... And NO I dont mind confess smoking Piedras....good yard/walk cigar with some age.

COJ Yes, you are correct...only bundles and packs of 5. I had (apparently incorrectly) assumed that bundles were in some kind of outer packs. Have not seen them myself as bundles. I have photos of the front of bundles, where they say "Hecho en Cuba" but was hoping that there may be something else on them. Thanks, Trevor.
Trevor2118 Posted December 25, 2006 Author Posted December 25, 2006 »Just my humble opinion, but Jose Piedra is like a half a step ahead of Guantanamera! » Hi Tamper, I agree.... They are made using short filler tobacco obtained from the (lesser) Vuelta Arriba region (same as the Guantanamera brand). I show them on the website as a non-premium brand. Regards, Trevor

stonerpc Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 On my box of 5 - 5 packs it reads "Hecho En Cuba". Just my opion but JP are better than most NC cigars I have had - also good to balance the budget against other more costly smokes;-)
josie67 Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I must admit that I actually like the Piedras, and in fact, my dad smokes nothing BUT the Piedras. Great bang for the buck.
stickman Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 » I must admit that I actually like the Piedras, and in fact, my dad smokes » nothing BUT the Piedras. Great bang for the buck. I find them to be a very nice change up cigar....I'll be honest...I smoke so many cigars in a day that I have keep a heavy rotation and I find that sometimes i'm sick of the Shorts and Boli PC's and PLPC.....the JP fits in a nice time when I dont have time to concentrate on the slow nose release and just drive dowm the road with that great old school cuban twang of a cheap ole' JP.....after 6 months in the humi there smooth creamy and tons of smoke stick
rafa Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I can't answer your question , but there are a new box format fo Jl Piedra cazadores and cremas , in spain since august ( limited edition ).It's a tin with the cigars inside, decorated with images of Habana Vieja and a little poster inside with the same image. I bough a tin with 25 cazadores (27,50 euros - code NCH jun 05) and other with 25 cremas ( 23,75 euros - code BNX abr 05 ). I can read in the tin "Elaborados totalmente a mano con tripa corta " but i don't believe it, i think that they are totally machine made. you can see all news from habanos in Spanish Oficial web : www.clubpasionhabanos.com The lenguage is Spanish and you need to be registered. The information is good and they organize free tasting for new cigar which has just come on to the market I know that they aren't great gigars but the tins are very beautiful. And you can use they like a little humidor , because there is inside the top a little sponge for the water.
