Ken Gargett
Had to try one of these after all the fuss. The rest are immediately off to deep storage (well, may possibly keep one or two for Christmas etc). Apols for starting the new thread but buggered if I could find the old one (this is my Christmas present to Rob - giving him a free shot at my total lack of computer/technical ability). These have a superb appearance and every indication of excellent construction but I have to say that I would rather just the normal box than the 'special packaging for ten' stuff. Just seems a way of needlessly jacking up the price. Better, have both so those that just want them to smoke can do so and others can buy the bells and whistles version for gifts, if that is their preference. A rich opening with spice and leather. Then waves of dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans, then a move to nuts and the character of old saddles and late night campfires (I know how much Rob enjoys this as a descriptor but I didn’t make the things). After a third or so, there developed a lovely character of mushrooms and fungal notes but there was no dirty earth notes at all. It is immediately obvious that this is a serious cigar. The flavours are dense and there is complexity, notwithstanding its youth (see below re this**). Very good draw, not too tight but certainly well made. It did tighten a lot for the last third, perhaps marginally excessively. There was a small but well formed cone. Fabulous now and left a good buzz and a great aftertaste. Any larger format cigar that leaves me immediately wanting another really has something going for it. 94 now and in 2 to 5 years could really be spectacular, surely they then have a long life after that. They remind me a lot of something from a few years ago (not the first release of the Cohiba LE Pyramide) but I am having a block and can’t put my finger on it. I want to say the early Partagas LE Pyramides but just can’t get it to click. Anyone else find they remind themselves of an earlier LE? ** In Havana earlier this year, I am certain that I was told that these LE’s from 2006 would be a re-release of those from several years ago and not new cigars. I have been trying to confirm this but no info yet. I know that this would not tie in at all with the tasting notes from others and it may be that there was a mis-communication. Will advise if I can get a definitive answer. No one else seems to have heard anything about this (anyone?) so it seems unlikely, but who knows. BigSlick
From what you and Rob have posted about this cigar it sounds like it will be a hands down classic in 5-10 years. Good review!

Sounded pretty nice until you mentioned "fungal notes". Had to drink some Pepto after reading that.
shrink
Very nice review, Kenneth. Have you smoked an '06 Cohiba Robusto. Sounds quite similar, tho' I suppose the Piramides are better...
