phxkev Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 I recall that the Prez was going to post his choice for the worst cigar of 2006. Did I miss it?

Professor Twain Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 CAO Brazilia. Before I started smoking Cubans, this was one of my top 3 cigars. Tried one after a steady diet of Habanos and had to spit it out about a third of the way through. Repeat experiment a month later, same results. My taste buds have been rewired, I guess once you go to the Dark Side there is no going back.

Right now I'm trying to figure out what NC cigars in my possession that I can still smoke with some pleasure. As a side effect I'll probably find out whether they improve with age or not, since many of them will not be touched very frequently. Worst cuban was a Quintero Brevas 04 I smoked yesterday. Bad draw, bad taste, bad bad bad. The rest of the bundle has been ok, though.

As for my worst cigar; I'd have to say a CAO Maduro. I've never really cared for the CAO line. I've sure tried, but they've never really impressed me. Sorry CAO :-(
Mike33 Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 » My humidor is about 75% NC vs. 35% Cuban. Your humidor is 110% full!!!!! Sorry, couldn't resist. IMO, it would have to be anything CAO makes. Can't say I've had a bad cuban this year.

I have a box that has been sleeping for almost 2 years now and I smoke mainly Habanos but still love a good Italia. Maybe it's the Itlian in me.

I have some aging and now I'm afraid to try one. I'll have to do it and see how much my tastes have changed.
tigger Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 » I recall that the Prez was going to post his choice for the worst cigar of » 2006. Did I miss it? I've been trying not to smoke too many '06 dated cigars this year in order to give them some time to rest, but of the ones I've smoked, there haven't been any I disliked. My worst was an '01 Upmann Monarca - so plugged that a poker didn't really help. Others from the box weren't bad, though some were pretty tight.

Ain't it the truth, once you get there you never want to return.
Wiley Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 I have a few loose NCs around, but I gave away hundreds I decided I would never smoke. As far as bad cigars go, some of the Cuban MM I've smoked this year were pretty awful.
Professor Twain Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 For those of you who have humidors full of Non Cuban cigars that you don't enjoy any more--see the post by DocRks, send them to soldiers, these guys and gals will be most appreciative of your castoffs. AND you will create valuable humidor space!

Great advice bro! Also, toss in some stuff that you could imagine yourself missing if you didn't have a 7-11 or grocery store around (M&Ms, soft batch cookies, gum, etc) The last box I sent weighed 18lbs! :-P Mark
MarkM Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Of all the Habanos I have smoked this past year I would have to say the Monte Robusto 06' EL. I know some of you will completley object, but it was bland and very uninterseting. I only smoked that one, so maybe some age will do them better, but I didn't like the one I had one bit.

I've only smoked one of mine & it was incredible- but so strong that I'm waiting a year before I have another.

But I have a lot and I mean a LOT of NC's I no longer have the palate for but I would like to try to regain a fraction of the $$$ invested. Does anyone have a good idea to unload well stored NC's on the market when you're not a vendor? Yahoo auctions? Maybe but no rep as a seller. I'd love to get rid of a bulk amount of these but where and how? Any ideas? I need to stop buying cigars and invest in a temp controlled cabinet hunidor. Help?
El Presidente Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 » I recall that the Prez was going to post his choice for the worst cigar of » 2006. Did I miss it? I must say that it was indeed a La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or no 2 (2002). Atrocious. I have had a great year with cigars. he number I have pitched from the rocking chair is way down on years previous. However using my "Pitch Test" there have been a few more. Diplomatico Number 3 (2005). It was like having a date with your mother. Going nowhere fast. Por Larranga Lonsdale (90's). I looked after this cigar for two years. I talked to it, caressed it, brought it along like a member of my own family. When I lit it.....it was plugged. Cohiba Edicion Limitada Pirimide (first edicion originals). Seriously, I have never liked this cigar and tried one from my own humidor where some singles are still stashed. They will come good ....perhaps....but I haven't got 40 years to wait. The 2006 releases put the originals to shame.
