Over the weekend, I had a chance to sample a Punch, and an SLR.

The Punch was beautiful - medium brown, shiny and firm. But, it did

feel a bit heavy in the hand. Alas, this manifested itself with an overly

firm draw.

Initially, it was buttery with savory spice, and I had hope. There was

barely adequate smoke volume, but it really just became too much

work .

The SLR was much less of a looker. Medium tan with the slight green

tinge. Rather rough to the touch with no sheen. This one felt quite light,

and sure enough had a very loose draw - tons of smoke.

Thankfully, this one had the substance to overcome the looseness.

It was all savory spice, with a nice white bean quality on the palate.

It was nicely medium in body. I thoroughly enjoyed it despite the draw.

I can only imagine what it would be with a firmer draw.

So, in the end, the Punch was the Siren, teasing with promise, but

leaving me high and dry on the rocks.

The SLR was the librarian - a bit ordinary during the day, but after

hours with her hair down and the fire lit.......

» Great review!! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks - more of a story than review I guess.

Actaully, I've been solicited by a Queensland paper called the Courier Mail -

perhaps some of our local members have heard of it.

Seems they have a writer who goes incommunicado for weeks at a time, and has

an expense account that shows a few too many trips to a Brisbane bathhouse.

But I digress.

I'm trying to polish my delivery.

No, but given the recent "who waxes" episode, I can understand how one might

reach that conclusion.

» Cant wait till next month when I can sample one of my SLR DCs!!

I've tried a few DCs, but haven't a brilliant one - yet.

I"ll have to try another soon to compare.

Never hear much about the SLR Churchill. Not a powerhouse, but a very nice cigar. I'm into my second box of 2001s.

He assures me it is only because his shower is blocked at home

you'll find one in that big place with all the books.

as for the paper, someone is having you on if there has been any mention of an expense account. i'm yet to find any publication with anything like a kiddie's piggy bank. oh for the old days as a lawyer when you could just charge it to a big client....

on a more serious note, have almost gone through a box of SLR churchills from 97 or 98 (have to dig them out to check). some excellent smokes amongst them but they have been highly variable and some have been disappointing. not within cooee of the mighty DC's.

Thanks Colt and I concur. I have to many tight Punch Churchills and am afraid to go back to the box for fear of another let down. The SLR that I have are 01's and are smooth, well made but a tad mild for me most of the time. Thanks again for the validation.
