Guest cohiba Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Hello to all, I had one of these cigars last night. "Nov 04", looked wonderful, had a very oily shine, felt a little loose, and smelled fantastic. Sat down in my garden and lit it up. Right off the bat, a terrible taste and smell. Well just not to my liking at least. I continued on and was very set back at how much i did not like this cigar. All the previous i have had were great, but not this one. All the way through it had a strong tannic, muted, uncomplex flavor. I barely lasted 2/3 of this stick and put it down. I was very disappointed. Anyone else have some input on these? Are they worth keeping around for more time? Maybe a bad box? Your feed back is appreciated. Cohiba
jadawin Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I havent had this one yet, but just ordered a single with my order last night, i look forward to trying it. Ill make sure to post when i get it and fire it up!

Give it a chance and it may still turn into a butterfly :-)
shrink Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Interesting thread. My experience with the HU No. 2 is limited to a box of ENE02's and singles from '04 and '05. I have found the younger pyramides to be medium bodied, and not very complex, but showing clean tobacco flavors and considerable "twang". On the other hand, my four year-olds are very strong, full-bodied, with undertones of cocoa and spice. An entirely different experience, and much better, IMHO.
Jimmy2 Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I think H.U. get stronger with age more than any other Cuban...
anacostiakat Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I can only think yours are in their sick period because like my brother Jimmy2 indicated: These are da Bomb! I like the Upmann #2 better than the Monte #2!
Guest cohiba Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Thanks for the thoughts..... i myself dont know what to think of this either. Must be sick !! I was thinking they would be out of their sick period, NOV 04, but i guess every cigar is different. Like i mentioned the previous ones i have smoked where wonderful. Lets see how these progress. In MRN's book he does suggest that they do actually get stronger with time. I will be staying away from these for a while... Cohiba
PorscheC4S Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I have 3 singles. They're not at the top of my "can't wait to try" list, but I have hopes they'll be enjoyable. Maybe I'll wait even longer than planned. Thanks for sharing your experience.
cigardawg Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 The H Upmann No. 2 is probably my favorite torpedo/piramides...when aged properly. My 01s are just now coming around for my palate. When this cigar is "on" it is is spectacular. As was said above, they are probably in some funky "sick" period. Put them in the back of the humidor and forget you have them. By the time you remember them, they will probably be better.
olotti Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Unfortunate that yours are in this "sick" period. This is one of my favorit torps and I enjoy it much more than the Monte #2, I only compare it to the Monte becuase they are so similar and it is considered the "benchmark" torp.
CigarZen Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Cohiba -- It does sound like yours are in a sick or dull period. Additionally I think that many HU need time to blossom, including the No 2s. The HU 2 is a really great cigar and consistently so, if you let it age about 4+ years (I know pain in the arse, but true.) A well aged HU 2 may be better than the Monte 2. I would say this, on average they ARE better because they are more consistent. The Montes that are "on" are better, but they aren't always on. So I say get a box from Rob and put them down to age and just forget about them -- I think you'll be happy you did. What you guys think?
