manny816 Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 On your 3 to 1 World Cup match win over Japan today!! What are you smoking to celebrate this great event? I will be smoking a white owl since the USA was outplayed once again. The Czech Republic defense did an outstanding job.

The US game was terrible, we were out-played in every aspect. :-(

The Aussies showed the world alot today. Just compare how they responded to being down a goal to how the US showed little life under the same situation. The US needs a HUGE turnaround Sat against the Italians! Deem

They sucked A$$ today unfortunately.
genevapics Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Congratulations to the Aussies! Yes, the US looked absolutely terrible today! Defense, offense, coaching... all around we STUNK! That said, Italy is next. Doesn't look good for Team USA. I'm not ready to jump ship, but this is not the start we needed. Again, Congratulations to Australia!
Ben Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Yep despite the fact that the Jap goal was dodgy as they come they kept their head and pulled the game out of the jaws of defeat. Viduka had a shocker I thought.

The » Czech Republic defense did an outstanding job. sat there with a pretty good slr churchill from around 98. just as well - probably would have crashed early but had to finish the cigar so stayed till the goalfest at the end. for all the fuss re guus, blind freddie could see that kewell could hardly move for the last 30 minutes. why was he still on? and the subs kennedy, cahill, aloisi, all looked way better than some players. people forget that while guus did well with korea, they still got knocked out and his stint with holland wasn't one of their best. as for the czech usa game, for me, the best thing was how it reinforced what a brilliant manager wenger from arsenal is. picking up rosicky the week before the w cup as his price would have skyrocketed now.
El Presidente Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 I am going to put a lazy $100 on the Czechs to win this tournament. They looked red hot.
strayvector Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 I've always thought that the Czechs are the team to beat in that group. I didn't think the US had a chance against them, but I think the US will bounce back and beat Italy.

The Italians just have a phenomenal defence. GO ITALIA!!! (I love the US team, but since I am Italian and have been following the Italian Nationals since 1978, they will always be my #1 team).

Has Viduka ever played a good game for Australia? Don't get me wrong, he is class, but I have never really seen him have a corker for the green and gold...

Don't get me wrong, he » is class, but I have never really seen him have a corker for the green and » gold... if you think viduka is overrated, and no argument from me, on the rare occasions kewell bothers to front for the s'roos, has he ever really dominated. when the courier mail, an otherwise glorious publication, put up a list of world cup greats this morning and it included pele, maradonna, zico, charlton, platini etc, that was fine. but what the hell kind of drugs was someone on to include harry kewell!!! the man would not get a start with chelsea, man u, arsenal, real madrid, barcelona and so on. a world cup great? spare me. when i read that, i spat my muesli across the room.
mgillett Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 I was nearly going to add Kewell to the list with Viduka but I think he actually has scored a couple of goals in the qualifiers from years past. Still, he is far from a World Cup great. If I had to nominate a player of greatest value to the s'roos it would have to be Schwarzer, IMHO...
habanablue Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 piss off kewell and viduka and start with Bresciano, Cahill and Aloisi up front against Brasil.
Ken Gargett Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 may i just add that today against brazil proved that kewell is the most overpaid overrated sportsman on the planet. the other blokes tried their hearts out and harry misses an open goal. it is the big thing with the net behind it and you are allowed to kick the ball in it, even if there is no one in front. wouldn't make the queensland roar on that performance.

Benitez agrees with you. There's a reason why he no longer is on the starting 11 for Liverpool.
