El Presidente Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Who here has been in the position where for a certain perion of time .....every cigar tastes the same....and it ain't bloody good. I am afflicted normally twice per year and I send myself into a 2 week no cigar hiatus. This radical proceedure normally sets my palate right and improves the profitability of my business

However, I have had it's sister syndrome of the same name after eating food too hot, I end up with skin stalagtites on the roof of my mouth. :-P
Colt45 Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 As I normally smoke only one or two cigars a week, it's never been an issue. Do you also suffer from P.F.P.S? (Pre-Fried Palate Syndrome)

habanohal Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 I am 1 of the unlucky ones who suffers greatly from this. That is why I am trying to cut down on per day cigars. Mostly it greatly happens when I go on a vacation and smoke 8 or more a day for 7 days straight. By the 3rd or 4th day , everything tastes like a Monte. I almost hit the full point on Sundays when I golf, for I smoke from the time I get up to about 9 pm. Almost chain smokeuing them. But then this SUnday was differant. It was one of those days where I just wanted one after another and couldnt staop. They all tasted so fantastic. The dreaded part is drinking a very carbonated soda at the end of the day, It is like mouth on fire.

This radical proceedure normally sets my palate right and » improves the profitability of my business I go through periods where I become kind of blase about smoking a cigar, and I go through periods where they all taste the same. Then, something changes, and I light up and it's awesome and I remember why I have this thing about cigars.

How do you enjoy smoking that many cigars in a row? I would be choking for air! I really can't fathom that many cigars in one day. Good for you. I think I would be toast after three (3) cigars back-to-back-to-back. I tip my hat... something I just can't do. More power to you!
Tampa1257 Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Unfortunately, I typically suffer from FPS a couple of times a year as well. The last time was after my trip last year to Vegas where I was smoking 10-15 cigars a day for 5 days in a row. I could not tell the difference after about day 4, but kept on smoking and having fun. It took about two weeks for the taste buds to work again, but if I had it to do all over again, I would!
cigarnv Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 I find myself with FPS every now and then and as the Pres does I just take a 1-2 week break from cigars. Also I have found that the ultra high pollen counts this spring have dampened my tasting abilities even though I do not typically suffer from hay fever.

This is a yearly issue that a week smoke free will cure.
anacostiakat Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 I don't smoke or drink every day. Probably about 5 - 4 days a week depending on the season. So I get a little break which I think helps.
alchemize Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 I don't smoke enough for this - one-two a week (more in the summer). When I go on a smoking "bender", I usually let up for a week or 2 anyhow. But that's because it's so hard for me to find time to smoke (3 little kids, etc.). Maybe once I'm an FOG :-D
cigardawg Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 I get this about once a year...after the RTDA. I am absolutely smoked out. I regularly smoke around 5 cigars per week (from Sunday to Sunday), so don't get it too bad normally. Even on vacation I only averaged one per day, so didn't get it then either. Right now, alergies are affecting me more than anything. If I can't breath, I can't taste. Decongestants and anti-histamines are the order of the day this time of year.
olotti Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 I suffered from this about a month ago and it seemed to just come out of the blue. I tried a BBF, PSD4, and a Mag 46 and they all literally tasted like air it was like my palate was just completely burned out, really weird. Now since I usually only smoke on the weekend about 2-3 per day if that, I went back to it the following weekend and everything was fine but I now know that this FPS does exist.
Well Armed Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 » If I can't breath, I can't taste. Decongestants and » anti-histamines are the order of the day this time of year. No doubt! This only happens to me in late spring and only in the morning and evenings.

I learned my lesson. Only smoke Cubans! ;-)
Van55 Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Fortunately I have experienced this only once in my memory, even though I smoked as many cigars in Vegas as Tampa did.
Ginseng Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Yep, Been there. Luckily this only seems to happen as I am on the verge of recovery from a cold or some other illness. One cigar might tast great but then the next could be burning newspaper as far as my palate were concerned. I don't smoke frequently enough ti make it a general issue though. Wilkey
Jimmy2 Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Wash your mouth out with some Virgin Olive oil let it saturate your taste buds than swallow. For me its a sure fixer about a shot glass full. It will clean your taste buds and coat your throat. It sounds crazy but it work for me. I smoke 5 a day more on the weekends.
Mel Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 I can get this if I smoke four or five in a short period of time but it passes over night. Ready to go again the next day.

We will smoke 7-8 cigars during a herf and the palate is completely shot the following day. I average 2 cigars a day but 4-6 on Saturdays or Sundays.I guess you get used to it after a while.
cobra Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 I have that "coated" feeling on my palate sometimes after just a 2 cigar day, but other times can smoke 4 a day with no issues. I think its my wifes cooking.
CigarZen Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Yep I get it too every now and then. Couple days off is ussually what I give myself. With a couple weeks off its like a whole new palate, its just the wait...:-(
